Categorical analog to Heat Color

Question

Good morning to my JSL-savvy colleagues!

I'm working on a little Skunkworks project.  I found this great little "Heat Color()" function that simplified a bunch of coding.  I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a categorical data analog to the function.  I can't seem to find one, but I might be missing it.

Any thoughts?

What do you mean by categorical input? Integer level numbers? For that, I just use (level-1)/(nlevels-1) to get a value in the 0..1 range to pass the Heat Color(). Heat Color() can take a color theme argument, including categorical color themes or ad hoc color themes with just the right number of colors for your levels.

If the number of categories is not too long you can just use Contains() on a list of strings. You may still need an associative array to remove duplicates:

names = Associative Array(:name) << get keys(); // list of 39 unique names
level = contains(names, "JANE"); // 16
