Sales Highlights
Medichem (06 May 2021 – Other Europe & Africa)
Medichem, a leading generics and API pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Spain, recently expanded from one to 21 JMP users in a new server agreement.
Medichem currently uses JMP for statistical analysis (such as equivalence tests between batches) and interactive visualization. However, it also wants to leverage JMP’s quality tools for statistical process control.
Andrew Beattie explains, “Medichem’s interest in developing JMP began in early 2020 following a JMP Live webinar, but since it only had one user, the vision for a collaborative dashboard was premature. Instead, Kremena Glaßer and Mahmoud Hammoud uncovered Medichem’s need for a robust and strategic analytic tool. Positive feedback from the existing user gave us a significant advantage, helping Medichem decide to invest further in JMP.”
Unfortunately, the pandemic put significant strain on the budget, which pushed the project further into the year. By October 2020, Andrew had joined the Other Europe & Africa sales team. Once introductions were made, Medichem was ready to engage again, and quotes were exchanged in preparation for a February 2021 upgrade when budget would be available.
Andrew continues, “However, what followed was months of back and forth with IT, who were convinced that they were on top of the process, yet rarely responded and were difficult to work with. There were complications and requests to change several details over time, such as considering licenses for users in a different country, adding JMP Pro, and even challenging clauses of the paperwork. Eventually, after answering an impromptu call from Mahmoud, IT organized a session with all users to confirm their interest and move the deal forward.” All the hard work and persistence paid off when the deal closed in May, making Medichem JMP's second-largest customer in Spain.

Kemira Shanghai (17 May 2021 – East China T1)
Kemira Shanghai, the Chinese division of a global leader in sustainable chemical solutions for water-intensive industries, recently acquired five JMP licenses.
Kemira plans to use JMP for DOE and quality control for its chemical products. Nicky Cai says, “We first approached Kemira in October 2020 when we found out that engineers from Kemira’s European operations were teaching DOE with Excel. They were using Excel for data analysis, which was very time-consuming since they had to enter every result of their experiments into the Excel sheet.”
After a brief introduction of JMP, Nicky had them download a JMP trial license. They were immediately interested. Nicky continues, “They invited us to do a customized demo in Chinese to help them understand how JMP could help them. We presented several DOE functions (DSD, custom design and traditional DOE) and told them how to use JMP to improve process flow and how to use Graph Builder.” The demo did the trick. Kemira purchased five licenses and plans to add more in the future.

CSL Behring AG (27 May 2021 – DACH T2)
Switzerland-based CSL Behring AG, a business unit of the Australian biopharmaceutical group CSL Limited and a specialized manufacturer of biotherapeutics, recently upgraded from 18 to 45 JMP licenses.
While around 15 data savvy scientists at CSL in Switzerland had been using JMP, the majority of its scientists and engineers still relied on statistics experts who were mainly using Statistica. In late 2019, Alex Beck discovered that a former JMP user at Novartis was moving to CSL and contacted her. Just before the COVID pandemic began, the DACH T2 team delivered an onsite workshop for the user’s Process Development team in Plasma Product Development.
Alex says, “In 2020, due to the global economic situation, the customer was very cautious with investments and only bought a few additional licenses. However, we continued to work closely with her, including delivering a series of virtual JMP Days. This continued support, together with the promotion of our coach and 2021’s economic recovery, led to a user upgrade from 18 to 45 licenses.”
