Discovery Americas 2021 Dates: Online and In-personHi, Steering Committee! On our last call, we discussed having both an online Discovery Americas event and an in-person event. We are moving forward with both, and here are the dates:
- Online: October 5 – 7. This will be very similar to the online Discovery Americas event last year. We need for you to attend the online sessions. I will set up pre and post conference meetings for the online event. Right now, I’m looking at scheduling the pre-conference meeting on Tuesday, September 28, at 1 pm ET. The post-conference meeting will be on Friday, October 8, at 1 pm ET. Please be on the lookout for meeting requests from me.
- In-person: October 21. This “special segment” will be only one day at SAS Headquarters in Cary. We will target local users, however, anyone is welcome to attend. Due to COVID protocols, SAS will not be able to cover your travel for this event. Thus, we don’t expect for steering committee members to attend. We are still tweaking/finalizing this agenda.

My JMP colleagues and I are very sad to inform you that we will not be gathering for a Discovery Summit Special Segment in October after all. We really wanted to welcome you to SAS campus with open arms and oh-so-many great conversations about statistical discovery. The pandemic, however, is reminding us that we can’t safely welcome friends with open arms – and that we shouldn’t even meet in person at all. Instead of continuing to plan our in-person Special Segment, we’re putting all of our efforts into making the online Discovery Summit Americas event as absolutely amazing as we can. Thank you for understanding our reversal here. And thank you for your help spreading the word about the power of statistics. We’ll still work to empower people together...it just won’t be in-person any time soon.
