Community ProjectsThank you for the discussion in our meeting on June 16, 2021 ( Meeting on 16JUN2021 - Enhanced Log and Action Recorder ). Your feedback was very helpful. I want to share a few of our ongoing projects as well as my thoughts on what's next.
The projects that are currently in progress,
- Translation. The current translation is based on the Language setting in your Community preferences. In July, translation will occur based on the language detected in the post. Also, translated posts will be indexed by web crawlers allowing for the content to be found via a Google search.
- JSL Cookbook. The JSL Cookbook (and File Exchange > Scripts) are being reviewed. The JSL Cookbook will get a refresh and be more focused on "I want to do...". A review process will also be established before code is published.
- New Menu Structure. In an effort to help users find the resources they need and to accommodate for future growth, we are planning to revise the main menu structure. Currently, the idea would be to use Share, Ask, Learn, Connect as the main menus. Suggestions welcome.
- How-To Content. We will be providing short video and text instructions on how to get the most from the Community. Items include setting up your profile, where to find information, best practices for posting, etc. If you have ideas, please add a comment.
My focus the past few years has been on understanding how the Community operates, developing metrics and dashboards, and building a foundation on which the Community can grow. So, what's next? I think the focus is ready to shift to content. How do we make it easier for everyone to find what they need? How do we educate members on providing content? How do we moderate the content? What content should we be providing? These and several other questions need to be answered. As always, suggestions welcome.
Re: Community ProjectsThought: I see two goals for the how-to content and they might with two different stragegies. One is people searching for a solution to a specific problem (short, to the point videos or examples), the other is for the user who doesn't know what to search for (still need short, to the point examples, but need to include the workflow around a topic, emphasizing what menus to click. I am frequently reminded of how daunting JMP can be for new users, so tutorials starting with importing data and ending with making some inference seem impactful.
Re: Community ProjectsWe pull data from a variety of sources. We can monitor such metrics as number of posts, registrations, search terms, views, etc. We have been building an internal dashboard over the past 1.5 years that updates the graphs nightly with the results published to a JMP Live instance.
If you have ideas/suggestions for a sampling/experiment strategy or metrics you think we should be analyzing, please let me know. My background is in computer science, not statistics.
There is a group in JMP Public for Community Super Users so we can publish graphs/data (to a point) if that would be helpful.
