Welcome to the JMP Development Update for May 7, 2021!
We have one week left before JMP 16.1 Code Freeze at the end of the day on 5/14/21. Thanks to everyone for continuing to triage your defects and Jira issues in preparation for wrapping up our first maintenance release!
I’ll be glad to help transition your triaged defects to Jira as you get started with 16.2 and continue work on JMP 17 projects. One good way to more get familiar with Jira is by entering new items and/or reviewing your list of “My Issues” to see if you have any still under consideration for 16.1. If you have items open in Jira with Fix Version/s = 16.1:OPEN, indicating they’re still under consideration, please plan to either fix them or remove the 16.1:OPEN location by the end of the day next Friday.
A reminder that we have a section of How-To pages for Jira in the JMP Confluence space. Please feel free to comment or update information on the pages if you see something wrong or want to contribute additional information.
While we did not meet this week for a dev demo, we have several upcoming. John Sall will present on updates made to better support analyzing larger genomics data tables in JMP Genomics without using SAS next week, Ernest Pasour will present on Tables menu preview and preferences updated on 5/20, and we have a few more planned as we head into June. Please let me know if you are interested in presenting at a dev meeting this summer!
Thanks to Tonya as always for sharing this week’s crash (16.1 and 17) and telemetry (16.0) files for the week of 5/7/21 with version 16.1 selected. The JMP Live report is here: Crash and telemetry files for the week of 5/7/21 | JMP Live (sas.com)

JMP Development Updates
Host
- John Schroedl: Updated JMP to use the modern WebView2 browser control! Again, thanks to Bob and Jim for their help. Pressing F1 on Windows will now locate and launch a help topic for the active window or dialog. Work with Dan on boxToPicture changes.

HTML5
- Josh M: Provided guidance to testers in verifying refactoring tasks from our last sprint. JMPHTML-824 – Investigate performance timing capture, pushed Part 1: Making performance metrics part of code base without requiring uncommenting debug information and exposing that information in an API to JMP Live. Continued performance documentation in Confluence.
- Mayowa: Added Engineering, EngineeringSI and Precision number formats to interactive html. (JMPHTML-808). Working on supporting customized font sizes interactive html (JMPHTML-837)
- Tommy: Working on exporting colors for table cells. Starting with Process Screening but will be looking at a few other scenarios as well.
- Bryan F: Continued to work on dark mode (example here). I still need to track down some of the places where we assumed text should always be black. Also put up a review for exporting treemap groups from C++ so they don’t have to be calculated from column data in JavaScript. As a result it became more obvious that we are increasing graph sizes by 1 pixel for reasons I don’t fully understand. Consequently, I removed those additions that and I’m running regression tests to see if there is a problem.
- John Powell: Reimplementing the Inverse mode of interactive HTML’s Local Data filter to work like JMP. Fixed Jira items missing fields in the JMP HTML project.
JMP Live
Statistics
- Laura C-S: Working on multiple group analysis so I can anticipate features we will need in the SEM Diagram and can communicate with Eric about them. Met again with Narayanan from P&G to consult on SEM analyses he’ll present at the upcoming JMP Day and, hopefully, at Discovery. Submitted a proposal for a half-day SEM course at CSP.
- Jianfeng: The equivalence testing project has been completed and it is ready for EA. I have moved on to implementing other new features for JMP17.
- Peng: Working on a generic solution of remembering and restoring profiler settings within platforms, and also a custom maintenance setup in RSS.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Taught a (virtual) on-site class at Covidien (Medtronic) with Scott Wise and Ruth Hummel our training course about text analysis that is based on JMP Pro 14. Developed new material for enhancements in JMP Pro 15 and 16.
- Tonya: Wrote several blog posts on new features in JMP 16: Process Screening (in review), Distribution, 2 for Control Chart Builder (2nd one still in review), and CUSUM Control Chart (in review). Cleaning up unit tests and bug verification.
- Jacob: Verifying DOE Defects in 16.1 and adding unit tests. Testing Make Validation Column with excluded rows. Testing Explore Outliers with Save Script to Preferences.
Life Sciences Updates
- John C: Fixed final defects for JMP Clinical 8.1, including an automatic study metadata refresh on first start feature, a translations update, set value order/color preferences issues, and a bug with SAS macro function call quoting. To JMP Clinical 16.1 variable requirements infrastructure, added wildcards for demographic domains and population variables.
Product Management
- Mia: Provided a “Model Visualization and Simulation” talk for Eastman Kodak JMP Day. Continuing preparation for the JMP 17 EA program. Meetings with JMP G team to discuss internal product feedback. Closing out an internal survey with JMP field teams to understand pains/challenges, potential lost deals, and opportunities for improvement related to data preparation in JMP. Learning more about Jira for product management.
- Dieter: Prepared and gave a JMP Live admin training for WL Gore. Also worked on a publishing problem from JMP Live customer Perrigo. Continued setting up the Red Triangle JMP Live instance.
Technical Support
Development Operations
- Jim: Updated operating systems, software and VM snapshots and provided Perforce support. Continued to review UT failures that are only occurring on the Big Sur M1 testing machine.

Updated Jira issues with Affects Version/s = 17.0 to use the 17.0:OPEN track per workflow discussion at Jira discussion group this week. Scheduled a few new dev meetings-please let me know if you are interested in presenting a dev demo this summer!
Documentation
- Susan C: Working mainly on JMP Live updates for 16.1. I plan to get the user/admin/install help out for review early next week, so good to give people a heads up.

Review Coverage Tool that Evan had shown us – reviewing coverage for some of my areas to see where tests things could be possibly added.
