Building Dashboards on Mac is Very SlowHi All,
I am using Big Sur and JMP Pro 15.2.1 (also happens on 16.0.0) on a 8 Core/64 GB RAM mac. I can combine windows (from the Windows Menu) and that seems to be snappy when making a dashboard from open platforms. But when I try to Edit this Dashboard or try to create a New Dashboard, it seems to take a long time (minutes) to add content or move content around and then Run the Dashboard.
As for Dashboard content, data has only 1000 rows and 19 columns. Control Chart Builder (with column switcher), Scatterplot 3D, Multivariate, Distributions, Graph Builder and Local Data filter to control all of them.
Anybody else notice this?
Re: Building Dashboards on Mac is Very SlowUPDATE!
Here is a note from development as to the likely cause:
It does look like the issue is related to slowness in generating the thumbnail views. It’s spending a lot of time in host code to scale the image. Work in 17 will help a lot, but don’t yet have a workaround to improve the speed in JMP 15/16. Xan mentions:
I think PDF generation got more expensive in Big Sur because of security checks for bad PDFs.
A lot of search hits related to problems with PDFs on Big Sur. Generating a thumbnail on Mac essentially creates a PDF and then scales it to the size we need for the thumbnail. In addition to Dashboard Builder, this may affect tab thumbnails in projects, publish to JMP Live, graphlets, and other places where we create thumbnails. The problem may be worse in Dashboard Builder because the thumbnails are recreated more frequently.
