It came to my attention that I did not know the customer experience for using non-English JMP and the info. may useful to others.
I sometimes switch between English, French and Italian, but had no idea what customers get.
Bob Hickey @bob_hickey summarized for me. He said:
All of the software we ship includes all of our supported languages.
- English
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
- German
- Korean
- Simplified Chinese
- Japanese
When installing the software, JMP will use the language of the operating system, if we support it. If we don't, then English will be displayed. (If you had Windows or Mac running in Russian, which we don't support, you would see the installer information in English).
While using the software, JMP will use the language of the operating system, if we support it, unless the user has changed the language in the preference settings.
The preference setting is a user setting and saved on exit of JMP. So, if a company use operating system of English on all machines, but one user wants to run JMP in Spanish, they just need to change the preference, exit JMP, start JMP.
If anyone has a burning curiosity about the same question for JMP Live, see this Confluence article: https://rndconfluence.sas.com/confluence/x/ZYyZB.
Short version: By far the most common scenario is logged-in user, preferred language stored in database. A user can change their preferred language by clicking their avatar in the upper right corner of JMP Live, and changing the language in the drop-down menu.
