Hi,
I would like to start a dialog to envision how customers would use a native JMP interface to [ source system ].
The industries and sales opportunities could extend the reach of JMP and put the product in the hands of many more customers.
I would like to start by identifying the various industries, vendors and types of systems they support.
Industries:
- Manufacturing sites recording instrument readings
- process
- production status
- performance monitoring
- product genealogy
- quality control
- manufacturing costing
- Utilities
- Coal
- Hydro
- wind
- nuclear
- transmission
- distribution
- Data centers
- device performance related to server environment
- resource utilization, temperatures, fan speeds
- network infrastructure
- router throughput, port status, bandwidth accounting
- applications
- health, execution statistics, resource consumption
- heavy equipment monitoring
- run hours, predictive modeling for failures
- environmental monitoring
- weather, sea level, atmospheric conditions
- racing
- engine measurements, environment readings, other sensors from cars or boats
Vendors:
- Honeywell
- General Electric
- OSI Soft
- Aspen
- Rockwell
Data Historians: aka, process historian or operational historian
- PHD: Process History Database
- PI System: historian
- Proficy Historian
- FactoryTalk Historian
Process Control Systems:
- OPC: Online Process Control
Process historians record data and retrieve data from process and production over time.
What types of questions do historians answer?
- How do customers query time data?
- What level of granularity? by second? hour? day? month? year?
- Do they look at the data as trends?
- Tabular over time range?
We have had many customers ask to connect to the various systems from each of the above vendors.
- If we were to integrate with a single historian system which one would you suggest?
- What type of authentication do customers use to connect to their historian?
- What do customers do after bringing the data into JMP? Data clean-up? Specific data transformations?
- Would one connect across multiple historians, say from, Antwerp refinery and Houston refinery?

I added a link to the data connectors prioritization confluence page, which is tracking this work in the product in 17, 18 and beyond.
Good conversation starter. I would also consider ERP systems (especially SAP) and LIMS. The data from historians often needs to be put together with resource and laboratory data to get the who picture for process understanding or when there are process issues.
