Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopWhen I run the exact same script on my laptop it works, but on desktop it does not.
Reason I need it to work on desktop is that JMP debugger won't work via VPN.
So I need the desktop script to work.
Here seem to be the offending lines of code (in that they generates a table on my laptop but not my desktop)
tbl = Open Database(
"DSN=bbbbbbs_odbc;SERVER=database;UID=six;PWD=two;DATABASE=test_data;PORT=3306;",
pstrng
Is there a reason this line executes flawlessly on my laptop but not my desktop?
Both c: drives on my laptop and my desktop can access the database folder in question when I Map Network Drive
Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopThere is no .dsn file related to this database on my laptop.
Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopHave you copied bbbbbbs_odbc.DSN file from your laptop to your desktop? It will probably be in your My Documents\My Data Sources. I distribute the .DSN file by putting it with the code as an add-in (to keep the code and connection together).
You need to be careful though that the SQL driver you use to create the .DSN file is available on all machines you wish to use the code on. To create a DSN file you will need to know the name of the server and the database name you have already mapped to.Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopI can access the database from the desktop maching in two ways: as a mapped shared drive in Windows, and through an in-house companycentric software tool. It's the JMP access part that matters most though.
Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopNot sure how to do this ...

Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopDid you try to manually access the database from the desktop machine? (Select File > Database > Open Table) You might discover either the step in which the problem occurs or obtain another DSN for comparison.
Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopyou may be right ... the desktop is x86 while the laptop is x64 based
Is there no way to option a 32-bit interpretation of the 64-bit data?
Re: Issue with SQL database access from laptop but not desktopWhat sort of database is this? If it's Access make sure the "bit-ness" matches between JMP and Access. I.e. 32-bit JMP can only access 32-bit Access, and 64-bit JMP can only access 64-bit Access.
