Academic Team Update
The Academic Team is excited to share that Ruth Hummel recently accepted a new role as Manager of JMP Analytical Education in the SAS Education division. Over the past five years, Ruth has made many outstanding contributions to the academic program, from leading the academic webinar series to driving the redesign of the academic website and course collections to becoming a very active and trusted voice in the academic community. She will be greatly missed, but we know that she will bring her thoughtful approach and tireless ethic to this vital role for JMP. Recruitment for her replacement has begun in earnest, so if you know someone who is a great teacher, speaks English and Spanish, and is a passionate JMP user, please direct them to this job posting.
News from Asia: Starting this year, the Chemical Engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM), the country’s top engineering institute, has adopted JMP for both introductory statistics and DOE courses. National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK) and MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) are two other two premier colleges where JMP will be part of their curricula, specifically in engineering and management.
News from EMEA: Derek Lomas is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft, the largest and oldest technological university in the Netherlands. He discovered JMP in 2014, when he used it to successfully defend his PhD thesis “Optimizing Motivation and Learning with Large-Scale Game Design" at Carnegie Mellon University (US), arguing that accelerating the pace of online design of experiments can accelerate basic science. Although faculties at TU Delft (and any other Dutch universities) are strongly "encouraged" to use free software only, Lomas firmly believes that JMP can make future engineers capable of solving complex problems. When his belief was bolstered by the relentless technical and sales assistance of the JMP Academic Europe team, the impossible became possible. Beginning this February, all students at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering began using JMP Pro through a JMP Academic Suite department-wide license to stimulate their creativity and design data-informed smart systems for human well-being.
News from Americas: Rice University licensed the JMP Academic Suite for use across the campus. Rice is ranked among the nation’s top 20 universities by U.S. News & World Report and top 100 in the world. Rice has highly respected schools of Architecture, Business, Engineering, Humanities, Math, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. Given the university's close links to NASA, it has produced a significant number of astronauts and space scientists. Rice graduates also include many prominent business leaders and government officials. Initially, Rice will use JMP Pro in its Social Sciences and Math departments for teaching and research, with ongoing plans to expand into other departments on campus.
SUNY Polytechnic University has also obtained a campus-wide JMP Academic Suite. SUNY Polytechnic is ranked first in the U.S. by the National Science Foundation in higher education research and development funding by businesses. With more than 300 corporate partners and multiple technology and innovation labs, SUNY Poly provides limitless opportunities for students. JMP Pro is being used in SUNY Poly’s Engineering school.
