Hi Folks,
Thank you for attending the Monthly SE meeting of March 20, 2017.
The agenda was:
- 5 Minutes: Introduction of SE for Ohio Valley, Jerry Fish, based in Kentucky.
- 60 Minutes: Academic Program “Industry Speaks” demonstration and feedback request
A message from the team of Mia Stephens, Julian Paris and Peter Hersh follows:
Thanks everyone for your great feedback and suggestions on the prototype of the Industry Speaks page (https://www.jmp.com/en_us/academic/industry-speaks.html) and program. For those who couldn’t make the SE call on Monday, "Industry Speaks” is our name for a new JMP Academic Industry Network: The goal of this initiative is to help bridge the gap between industry and academia, to help build an awareness and an understanding of the importance of statistical thinking and data skills to better prepare students for careers in industry.
Over the next several weeks we will be improving on the Industry Speaks landing page and look forward to hearing any additional thoughts and suggestions that might occur to you about how we can better bridge the gap between academia and industry. In the next few weeks we will be putting together a short survey to follow up on some of the questions we raised in the meeting (such as whether you know of which universities or programs companies you work with recruit from). For those of you who couldn’t make the SE call and are watching on the recording, please feel free to reach out to us (Peter Hersh, Mia Stephens, Julian Parris) if you have comments or suggestions. We will also have a place on the survey we will be sending out to add comments.
