The best way to be more empathetic toward someone is to walk in their shoes for a day, according to Kim Hale Andraeus of SAS Work-Life. Therefore, Friday, April 2 is the first global JMP colleague appreciation day, where employees take on the roles and responsibilities of each other.

“We’ve successfully done this in JMP Academy,” said Robin Betters. “New hires in Business Ops have given JMP demos just like an SE learns to do. Web developers have learned the ‘rule of ones’ that guides salespeople’s conversations with prospects. It’s really wonderful to see Sales and Marketing employees learning more than their own roles.”
In anticipation of the day, JMP testers are on red alert. “We don’t expect bugs to be created by marketing people writing code,” said Nicole Jones, “but we want to be ready...just in case.”
The Web team is creating a slew of “page not found” responses in every language...just in case some Web links break as new pages are created tomorrow.
Likewise, Business Ops is investing time in fortifying their systems. Nobody would write any non-standard deals on purpose, said Carol Gretz, “but we don’t want to risk a mistake slipping through the cracks tomorrow.”Fiona Kelley said she looks forward to seeing what kind of Salesforce modifications get made tomorrow. Then she and Antoine Smith started laughing and said in unison: “Please don’t make any modifications.”
Robin Betters said she’s secured several copies of Rosetta Stone in Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, French, Japanese, German, Korean and Italian for anyone who needs language help as they explore other roles for the day. It will be available on a first come, first served basis, so don’t wait to request it if you take on a role outside your region.
By the way, Anne Milley will be trying her hand at sales, so we need a moderator for tomorrow’s live broadcast of Statistically Speaking. Who wants to walk in her shoes for the day?

Ha! I think you'll be great @calking. Though you'll likely go broke at $20/mention. I nearly had to take out a 2nd mortgage to cover $1.
No worries. John Sall said he'd be willing to foot the bill ;-).
Well I for one am stoked about "Walk a kilometer in my shoes' day! I'll be switching off with Jeff Perkinson to try my hand at customer care (I even shaved my beard to make the transition more smooth!).
My goal is to increase mentions of JMP Community (at community.jmp.com) with a new incentivization structure:
- A single mention -> $20
- Ten mentions -> 1 dozen fresh Krispy Kreme donuts
- Fifty mentions -> $500 gift card to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
- 100 mentions -> A brand new Lexus
And, for our super users, something special: 7,000,000 mentions will net you your very own AV-8 Harrier II jump jet!
