Experiences with setting up Operational Excellence Initiatives?

Question

Hi,

a customer wants to get information about experiences on OPEX (Operational Excellence) initiatives. Do you know of any customer started such an initiative and where we could share experiences? I know other customers having an OPEX group but I do not have information about how they introduced OPEX in their company.

Background:

In the past there were 6sigma initiatives but they died out in several regions, now they decided to do OPEX, that is roughly said getting more analytical (which might lead to kind of 6sigma again but in other words :)  )

Currently they define what's in OPEX for them and would love to have other customer experiences on introducing OPEX.

To me the phrase "Operational Excellence" is still another one of those labels for a 'program' of some sort, that a company or organization embraces to support some sort of 'change' for the better. As such each company's 'Op Ex' program is different in terms of contents, deployment model, and specific features. I saw this all the time working across multiple companies as a supplier quality engineer during my final 8 years at Kodak. Heck, even at Kodak, over the years, in sequence, we had labels such as "Quality Leadership Process", "KP4", "Six Sigma", "Kodak Operating System", to name a few. Just repackaging of much of the same elements and leadership styles.

With respect to your customer if they would like to chat with me over the phone, I'd welcome to opportunity to share what I have observed, best practices, things to avoid, things to make sure you pay attention too, etc.

@martindemel, please encourage our customer to post the question to the JMP User Community.

It may make a good discussion and draw out some references for us.

The question is a good one for the community as there are likely a number of people who have been through something like that visiting the Community.
