Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorSince a recent JMP update, rolling the mouse scroll wheel upward in a column selector will either move the list up and down or scroll the list downward, which is very annoying.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selector - Status changed to: DeliveredRe: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selector - Status changed to: Coming SoonThanks for reporting this. We were able to track down the problem and while not widespread it did affect more than just this mouse. So, we're glad you found it.
We weren't able to get the fix into the first release of JMP 14 but it will be in the first maintenance, JMP 14.1.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorAn update: I got the same mouse as you and have reproduced the issue here. Hopefully that means we can do something about it.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorThat's helpful information. As soon as we can reproduce it reliably in a debug environment we'll see what we can do about it. It is annoying, I know.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorThanks for this suggestion! I tried a HP SM-2022 wired mouse with a scroll wheel that turns in discrete steps (as opposed to the Microsoft mouse which turns continuously), and the problem went away. Maybe it's related to how the scroll wheel turns (discrete vs. continuous)?
Any plans to fix it in the future? I would love to keep my MS mouse which is much more comfortable to use, except in JMP.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorBased on our research it appears that it may be related to the hardware itself. I've ordered one of those mice to test with. Could you try a different make and model mouse on your machine?
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorIt's a Microsoft Mobile Wireless Mouse 4000 interfacing with the PC via a wireless USB receiver. However, it's using the default and generic mouse driver that came with the Windows OS. I don't have this problem in any other programs on my PC, and JMP seems to be the only one affected.
BTW I also saw the similar issue the other day on my colleague's PC, and I believe she's using a similar setup.

Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorWhat brand and model mouse are you using?
Can you run Device Manager and show me the section about Mice and other pointing devices?

Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selector
I'm using the default mouse driver and I don't see "smooth scrolling" in the mouse settings.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorWhat kind of mouse and mouse driver do you have?
I was able to elminate the problem by turning off "Smooth Scrolling" in my Parallels configuration. I see some posts around the web that other mouse drivers may have similar settings. Can you check that?
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorNo, I'm running JMP natively on a Windows 7 PC.
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selectorThat's really helpful, thanks.
I'm not able to reproduce that on a PC, but I can on my Macintosh running Parallels. Are you using Parallels on a Mac?
Re: Please fix the mouse scrolling problem in column selector
During the whole video I only rolled the mouse scroll wheel UPWARD. In the first portion of the video I rolled fast. The list was overall moving upward but not smooth (mixed up & down), and I couldn't move all the way to the top. In the second portion I rolled slowly. The list was moving smoothly but it was moving downward in the opposite direction.
I was using JMP 13.2.1 (64 bit) on Windows 7 Enterprise Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1).
Re: Please fix the mouse strolling problem in column selector - Status changed to: Needs InfoRe: Please fix the mouse strolling problem in column selector We're going to need some more details here to figure out what's going on.
- What column selector are you referring to? Can you provide a screen shot so we can know for sure which control you're referring to?
- Can you describe the behavior more fully? Which way are you scolling on the mouse and what do you see on the screen?
- Which OS are you using (Windows/Macintosh) and which version of the OS?
- What version of JMP are you using?
It may be easier to have this conversation directly with Tech Support where they can diagnose and document the problem more clearly. Please send a note with these details to support@jmp.com and they'll open a track and see if they can figure out what's going on so we can address it properly.
