We are just days away from the launch of Discovery Summit Europe. It runs Monday, 8 March through Friday, 12 March.
You can see from the agenda that it is packed with great content. Much like the Americas event last fall, these papers and posters will be available before the conference date. And the conference itself consists of several hours of live sessions each day of the week.
Discovery is free to attend, and no travel is required. Therefore we hope to see our Zoom sessions packed with the statistically curious. However, we are far from our target. Please reach out to your users in Europe and beyond, and help us spread the word about this amazing opportunity.

Tuesday, 09 March
Plenary Session
Thanks for the Memory
John Sall, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, SAS
JMP has always liked remembering things about your data, but with JMP 16, remembering the actions you take becomes very empowering, helping your scripts repeat those same actions on the next set of data automatically. With JMP 16, there are many more features you will find memorable.
Wednesday, 10 March
Plenary Session
Data Viz: Discovery to Communication
Evanthia Dimara, Assistant Professor of Data Visualization, Utrecht University
Xan Gregg, Director, Research & Development, JMP
Maarten Lambrechts, Data Journalist and Visualization Consultant
Moderator: Malcolm Moore, European Technical Manager, JMP
“Data viz” is both a buzzword and a broad term; it encompasses so much, yet says so little. This conversation will go much deeper than surface-level graphs, as it explores the tension between presentation graphics and every aspect of discovery graphics, which encompasses data cleaning, pattern identification, confirmation of key findings, and communicating and exploiting new understanding. It will address the power of interactive graphs. It will look at nonstandard visualizations. It will demonstrate how to communicate with statistically illiterate audiences. And it may even cover visual uncertainty. Come prepared to introduce your own topics and ask questions of our data visualization experts.
Thursday, 11 March
Plenary Session
Dark Data and Invisible Women
Caroline Criado Perez, Author, Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
David Hand, Author, Dark Data: Why What You Don’t Know Matters
Moderator: Anne Milley, Principal Product Marketing Manager, JMP
If these names are familiar, it’s because both Caroline Criado Perez and David Hand have keynoted previous Discovery Summits. Their talks were so well received – and their topics so complementary – that we just had to ask them back for a discussion about overlooked, uncollected data and the decisions that are made in the dark. This timely conversation will cover real-life, relatable examples. Log on and be ready to pose your own queries about dark and invisible data.
Friday, 12 March
Plenary Session
Moonshots and Dream States
Richard Wiseman, Author of Shoot for the Moon, Night School, The Luck Factor and more best-selling books
Last time Richard Wiseman keynoted a Discovery Summit, he had the audience in tears. Lucky for us, the tears were from laughter as Wiseman shared story after story of people who thought they were plagued by misfortune. This time, we’re bringing Wiseman to the “big stage” to talk about other psychological topics, such as the science of success, collaboration and creativity, and the mind-set it took to get humans to the moon. And then dive into a different kind of space: the mysteries of sleep, why it’s often elusive, and what our dreams really mean. Come prepared to explore thoughts big and little, and to bring the questions that keep you up at night.
Important note: Employees should not register via the registration page. We will register you via a different system.
