The benefits of experimental design was the focus of JMP Europe’s latest Statistically Speaking event: How Design of Experiments Can Transform the Way We Innovate. More than 1,200 individuals registered for the event and many more will soon be able to view the event on-demand.
The event’s keynote address was delivered by Tim Gardner, CEO and founder of Riffyn. After his talk, Gardner was joined by panelists Dirk de Bruyn Ouboter, Platform Lead for Electronic Data Capture at Syngenta; Sara Timp, Lab Manager Media Development of Alvotech; and Victor Guiller and R&D Engineer with FUCHS for an in-depth panel discussion. The panelists shared their experiences and gave attendees an idea of how design of experiments could solve problems, improve decision making and help their organization innovate. Attendees also heard real-world DOE case studies from prominent organizations that shared successes and tips on how to overcome challenges one might encounter implementing a structured approach to experimentation.
To help JMP sales team engage in more meaningful and productive post-event conversations with customers and prospects, we’ve created the following list of recommended resources to position now that the event has concluded. This list pulls appropriate assets from across our web site.
The European team will also follow up with attendees sharing the following calls-to-action:
- On-Demand DOE Course for Scientists and Engineers (in collaboration with Chemistry World)
- Live DOE Course for Scientists and Engineers, delivered in March and April (also in collaboration with Chemistry World). This free five-day training course and workshop will be presented in English, with each session delivering the same content – so attendees should choose one or the other.
- Promotion of JMP Trial Download.

4 Stars The power of structured experimentation in science and engineering Statistically Speaking
This on-demand Stat Speaking event shows how innovative organizations use DOE for efficient, effective discovery of practical insights. Though Peter Goos provided the keynote, but Tim Garnder served on the post-plenary panel. The panel showed how Riffyn (and Corning) use design of experiments to solve problems, create new products and advance their organizations. Great for Industrial R&D and manufacturing organizations, the panel talks about the benefits of DOE and how progressive organizations use DOE to gain fundamental knowledge of systems, processes and products.
4 Stars Optimizing Processes with Design of Experiments, White Paper
This white paper is the most popular (views/day) asset we have in Resource Center and the best at generating registrations in Salesforce. It includes a really good, high-level discussion of DOE and the benefits it can bring any company.
This resource is available in several languages:
4 Stars The JMP Design of Experiments Advantage, White Paper
This is the 5th most popular (view/day) asset in the Resource Center and the 2nd best at registrations in Salesforce. This is a little more advanced of a resource that takes a different angle, advancing the idea of using custom designs. It also highlights how well JMP does DOE to “tailor the design to the problem,” and explore multifactor opportunities that exist in almost all real-world situations. This resource is available in several languages:
4 Stars Accelerating Innovation with DOE, Live Webinar
This webinar with JMP’s Phil Kay will show attendees how to DOE gives you predictability in the total effort needed to achieve your goals and show you how to work smarter to achieve more outcomes in the limited worktime available. The event takes place February 18 from 10:30 - 11:00 GMT | 11:30 - 12:00 CET
3 Stars Optimal DOE: A Case Study Approach: Chapter 7, Book Chapter
This is a chapter from Peter Goos’ book (co-authored with Brad Jones) Optimal Design of Experiments: A Case Study Approach. This is a strong resource that uses case studies to show how to make a design match the process or system under study using available resources – and still optimize the information obtained from the experiment. It is a little older, 2011.
3 Stars Optimizing Your Process With Design of Experiments, Tech Speaking Event
3rd most popular (views/day) and 3rd most popular at generating registrations in Salesforce. Strong webinar, talks about how to use DOE to deliver hard to manufacture products. Good case study.
3 Stars Mastering Complex Processes with Design of Experiments, Chemistry World Webinar
DOE Workshop.
3 Stars Cautionary Tales in Designed Experiments, full length e-book
This book is long, but it does a great job of explaining the basics of statistical design of experiments. A bit of a history lesson at times, historical examples of early DOE. The second half of the book covers more statistical concepts, such as various designs for experiments, analysis of variance, Bayes’ theorem in DOE, measurement, and when experiments fail. The book concludes by citing the ubiquity of statistical design of experiments.
2 Stars JMP On-Air Doctor DOE series, JOA videos in the JMP Community
This is a series of 5 or 6 20-minute segments that tackle topics related to DOE. Various JMP presenters including Brad Jones. More specific topics, but more focused discussions. Also shows our breadth of DOE experts and humanizes our business a bit with these more casual discussions.
