On January 28 JMP offered our first Statistically Speaking event of the year, Find meaning with purpose-driven analytics. The plenary was given by University of Michigan professor and CEO of Kumanu Vic Strecher. The talk outlined Kumanu’s collaboration with the Harris Poll and discussed the analytical methods used to answer questions around mental health and finding purpose in one’s life.
In the panel discussion that followed, Strecher was joined by Founder and CEO of Riffyn Tim Gardner; SAS Senior Associate Analytical Consultant Ayana Littlejohn and NOAA Scientist Anderson Mayfield for a look at how scientists from a number of fields are using analytics to address some of the world’s most pressing issues.
With more than 1,400 registrations for the event, our Sales teams will be reaching out to advance conversations on the benefits for analytics for their organizations and how JMP can help them in those endeavors. To help with those conversations, we’re recommending the following assets.
These assets were selected from a number of sources. Encourage your contacts to view these additional assets for more information on JMP and to advance your post-event sales efforts.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
Thanks

Life On Purpose: Integrating Predictive Modeling, Big Data, and Mobile Technology for Health and Well-Being, 2017 Discovery Summit Plenary Talk
This keynote talk from the 2017 Americas Discovery Summit covers many of the same themes Vic covers in the Stat Speaking event. Highly regarded talk with high evaluation scores, Vic spends the hour discussing how we can use the knowledge and technologies of our digital world to create a life worth living. The talk includes many personal stories and a discussion of new strategies for motivating and improving health, well-being, resilience and human performance.
The unmeasurables: Exploring the subtleties of what it means to be human, JMP Foreword Article, (page 5)
This article from Vic Strecher expands on the topics he covered in his keynote, specifically integrating the science of purpose and well-being with advanced predictive analytics. In the article Vic talks about how his ability to study concepts of purpose has been enhanced by the set of powerful, elegant data analysis and exploration tools offered in JMP.
Using Data to Align with Your Life Purpose, Analytically Speaking
In this Analytically Speaking on-demand webinar Strecher talks about the studies that led to his understanding of life purpose, and how data is helping others understand their own. He’ll cover designing an experiment to study how the affirmation of core values can help change behavior, the benefits of approaching learning with a greater purpose in mind, what happens to your health, absenteeism and presenteeism when you lack purpose?, how his app builds a within-person predictive model to help people align with their purposes and why the people who transcend are better innovators and discoverers.

Just Add Water… Article from JMP Resource Center
In this article, which will appear in the upcoming issue of JMP Foreword, Tim Gardner shows how applying designed experiments can turn something as simple as “adding a little water” into an operational gain worth hundreds of thousands of dollars per run. The article highlights how the improvements were made possible through collaborative colleagues willing to test the unexpected, access to an aggregated data set of unusual quality and accessibility, and a few good hours with JMP.
The power of structured experimentation in science and engineering Statistically Speaking
This on-demand Stat Speaking event shows how innovative organizations use DOE for efficient, effective discovery of practical insights. Though Peter Goos provided the keynote, but Tim Garnder served on the post-plenary panel. The panel showed how Riffyn (and Corning) use design of experiments to solve problems, create new products and advance their organizations. Great for Industrial R&D and manufacturing organizations, the panel talks about the benefits of DOE and how progressive organizations use DOE to gain fundamental knowledge of systems, processes and products.
How Design of Experiments Can Transform the Way We Innovate, Statistically Speaking, Upcoming Event
This LIVE European Stat Speaking event takes place Feb. 11. Tim Gardner is the keynote. The event will be a good one for a high-level overview of DOE. Specifically, Tim discusses how his company has helped organizations use DOE to actively manipulate factors according to a prespecified plan to gain useful, new understanding of relationships among the inputs and outputs, make better use of existing data, solve problems they couldn’t solve before, and improve decision making. The event will also provide real-world DOE case studies from prominent organizations that have a lot to share about their successes and challenges implementing a structured approach to experimentation.

Living Oceans Success Story Customer Success Story
By increasing the level of statistical sophistication in their research, marine biologists can draw more substantive conclusions from coral reef data sets. JMP® makes robust statistical modeling less daunting for non-statisticians.
Through enhanced collaboration and data transparency, scientists are closer to developing new approaches aimed at best driving future coral reef conservation efforts.

Exploring the Reef: Coral Response to Changing Environments, JMP On Air Featured Session
Coral Biologist Anderson Mayfield has dedicated his career to preserving, protecting and restoring the world’s oceans and aquatic resources. In this segment of JMP On Air’s Earth Day Episode, Dr. Mayfield shows how he is using data analytics (and JMP Pro) to predict and positively influence the health of the world’s coral reefs. You’ll also learn more about how better understanding global threats, (e.g. climate change, human population growth, overfishing, water pollution and disease) can help us build up resilience in our threatened coral environments.

Never Stop Learning, Book Chapter
This chapter by Bradley Staats a behavioral scientist and operations professor at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School builds on the theme of growing into your purpose. Staats argues that in order to succeed, we must strive to be dynamic learners. The chapter explores the important role others play in our learning success, including their influence on our motivation and on determining what and how we learn. He encourages seeking out people who have information and experiences different from yours and building successful relationships.
