Recode respects property informationCurrently, when I use Recode, it duplicates the column properties. However, if my columns have an Other property (SPSS Name) or (SPSS Label), it results in a naming conflict and the newly created columns cannot be used until this property information is manually changed. Also, if I have a Value ordering property and recoded the values, the old and the new value ordering information is maintained.
To replicate the issue, I have attached a data file. Panelist ID, Question response (OAR), and Product codes.
- Start by recoding the OAR responses. For example, Recode and then group the 75 &100 into one group and then groiup 50 and 25 into another group.
- Then Recode into a new column.
- Next, build a categorical report (Analyze> Consuemr Reserach> Categorical> Structured tab. Drag the new and the old OAR into the Side.
- You will see that JMP will not allow you to drag both over into the response roles. I believe it is because the recode has duplicated all the column properties and because SPSS Name and SPSS Label (considerd OTHER properties) are both used in naming, that JMP gets confused that there are in fact 2 different columns.
- If possible, when it recodes if it could simply add a number to the end of the SPSS Name or SPSS Label the issue would be resolved.
User InterfaceRe: Recode respects property information - Status changed to: In DevelopmentConfirmed that this will be addresed in JMP 15.1.
Re: Recode respects property informationAn update here: We're going to get this working in JMP 16 and will work on getting it into JMP 15.1 as well.
Re: Recode respects property informationThanks for the follow up. We'll look into that preference and see what we need to do to address this.
Re: Recode respects property informationI found the preference setting which results in this issue: Platform preferences> Categorical> Use short names in dialog
Thank you Michael for the tip and thank you Jeff for looking into this.

Re: Recode respects property informationThank you Jeff. Right now, we are investigating all of my preference settings as it looks like that could be the issue. Thanks again.
Re: Recode respects property informationWe've continued to try to reproduce any problem and can't. It might be best for you to contact Tech Support to see if they can help you narrow down what's going wrong in your case.
Re: Recode respects property informationJeff, I am on 14.3. The first example you built is what I am doing, but I do not get what you get. I am encouraged that it works for you. However, I get the first column twice.
Re: Recode respects property informationThanks, @reese_sj. I'm still unable to reproduce the problem though. I followed your instructions and got both OAR and OAR2 in my report in various ways.

Re: Recode respects property informationHi @Jeff_Perkinson - just double checking that you saw that Scott edited this idea and attached more info.
Re: Recode respects property informationI'm having trouble reproducing the problem here. Can you elaborate a bit more and perhaps provide a data table and instructions on how to reproduce the issue? You can edit this idea to attach the data table. Thanks!
Re: Recode respects property information - Status changed to: DeliveredThis was addressed in 15.1.
