Baosteel (10 Sep 2020 – China East T1)
Baosteel, the global modernized integrated iron and steel company, recently acquired 16 JMP Pro licenses.
Iris Yuan says, “We first approached Baosteel in August 2019. At that time, Baosteel had used Minitab and SAS for over 20 years. Its engineers were quite familiar with these existing tools and methodologies, so our challenge was to find a scenario that demonstrated JMP’s unique value. We decided to focus on data mining to win this strategic account.
“We used neural network and random forest in JMP Pro to forecast the natural spread of 1,580 hot rolling finishing mills in Baosteel. The model accuracy was awesome. The team exported the model created by JMP Pro and implemented it into production control. We also showed how to apply Functional Data Explorer (FDE) to determine the optimal heating curve of a cp800 heating process. FDE is ideal for function fitting with temperature change; nonlinear modeling is also helpful.”
After evaluating JMP Pro, Baosteel decided to incorporate JMP Pro in 16 of its data mining projects. Iris continues, “To expand the scope and popularity of JMP at Baosteel, we encouraged our JMP users to participate in a data analysis competition, selecting either JMP, SAS or Python for their analysis. We were excited when the participant who selected JMP won first prize in this competition.”
“As Baosteel implements the construction of a smart manufacturing and big data platform and to help it achieve its goal of digital transformation across the organization to enable analysis-driven decision making, we are now exploring the feasibility of integrating JMP into a big data platform by combining JMP and JMP Live,” concludes Iris. “We are looking forward to JMP becoming the universal tool at Baosteel in the future.”

PINK GmbH Thermosysteme (01 Dec 2020 – DACH T1)
PINK GmbH Thermosysteme, which manufactures systems for vacuum-supported soldering, sintering, low-pressure plasma surface treatments, and drying and processing technology, recently acquired five JMP licenses.
Manuela Merkhofer says, “The sale was initiated with Thomas Krebs, Head of Customer Application, from a Salesforce lead. He and his colleagues had been using Minitab but were looking for faster and more flexible solutions to analyze and visualize their data.
“In my initial conversation with him, I took the chance and showed him the five-minute demo. He was very impressed with JMP’s ease of use. Next, Florian Vogt demonstrated how to get deeper into PINK’s specific use cases. Florian showed them JMP’s powerful and versatile platforms, Graph Builder and Control Chart Builder, with a strong focus on the flexibility of JMP. While impressed with the platforms themselves, it was JMP’s flexibility and ease of use that were most compelling to them. Mr. Krebs promised to order JMP as soon as the Minitab license expired. Success! At the end of November, they moved from Minitab to JMP.”
