2020 was a year of creation and curation. At times you may have felt like you were drinking from a firehose! This list is an effort to summarize the top 10 Product Management efforts from 2020. Each has links to supporting resources (to learn more) and links to dashboards/data (to show you how we are measuring the success of each of these programs). 2020 Changes/Additions:
Launched JMP Genomics 10 and JMP Clinical 8
In April, JMP launched JMP Genomics 10 and then in November launched JMP Clinical 8. With each launch, we developed new training and resources necessary for our Sales teams better understand and position each of our life sciences products.
New Processes with Development
The PM team made 2020 the year of documenting and streamlining processes. With the introduction of Confluence, we have now fully documented the product release cycle, which helps for better transparency between Development and Product Management when deciding and communicating about the development of the latest features.
New Ways to Collect Ideas from the JMP Division
Even though we have several feedback channels for customers, we wanted to find a better way to collect and catalog all the amazing ideas from our JMP team members to make our products even better. This year, we added an Internal Wishlist, which provides a venue for our JMP staff to make suggestions on potential new features or enhancements to existing features. Additionally, as we plan for JMP 17, we have held several meetings with different groups around the division to get their perspective and listen to their needs/ideas.
New Resources
We created a new Product Management Library on Inside JMP, which is meant to serve as a place for product resources and training so our Sales teams can position the right product at the right time to the right customer.
New Training Series
In July 2020 we began a new training series aimed at helping our Sales teams have better, more informed conversations with prospects or customers. We held 13 different sessions in which JMP experts shared their knowledge about industry, competitors or product features. We appreciate all who helped put this series together!
New Partner Program Process and Portal
The partner program saw a refresh this year. There is now a new partner portal (to take the place of the private community group) which has self-service forms for partners to request new software, get temporary student licenses or make changes to their website listing. Additionally, we are holding quarterly partner webcasts that keep our partners updated and answer any of their questions.
New Products → New Challenges → New Opportunities
We continue to have a great level of activity around JMP Live. In 2020, our Sales teams held over 300 demos, created 25 new opportunities, and brought in around $525,000 in revenue for JMP Live. THANK YOU!!! As JMP continues to have more and more conversations, the Product Management team will make sure to document lessons learned to share with/train our Sales and Development teams.
Growth for STIPS
There was a tremendous amount of effort to increase the visibility and adoption of STIPS in 2020. This year, the course was fully translated into Japanese, Korean and Chinese. There are now five versions of the course available (Coursera and four offered by SAS). All of this hard work is paying off as we now have over 25,000 enrollments worldwide!
Growth in the Early Adopter Program
The Early Adopter program is one of the best ways that JMP Product Management receives feedback on features and improvements to the product. In 2020, our goal was to drive feedback earlier and get more input from key customers. We decided to start the invitation process earlier in the cycle and invited more critical customers globally. With these changes, we had the best initial membership drive, with over 220 members within the first month!
Continued Transparency with the Rest of the Division
From process to goals to metrics to learned experiences, the Product Management team is hoping to be more transparent in all that we do. A continual goal for our team is to document, measure and share our work, which allows us to function more effectively as a team; it also allows us to provide insight and understanding of what we are trying to achieve and where we are in that process.
2021 Projects/Goals:
Here are some of highlights of what the Product Management team is focusing on in 2021:
- JMP 16 Launch: Ensure we have a successful launch by continuing to build out resources and training for our Sales teams to effectively discuss benefits of the new features.
- Industry-Focused Approach: Product Management will be leading the effort to shift programs and content to better support our key industries, ensuring that each department within the division is aligned in those efforts.
- STIPS: Make it even easier for companies to get STIPS by providing new avenues to access and customize STIPS content for their organization.
- EA Program: Continue to drive engagement with the JMP 17 EA program with key customers across the globe by engaging with them. (HINT: We would love help from our sales teams to start recruiting now!)
- JMP Clinical: In 2021 JMP Clinical will be offered as a JMP-only solution (meaning it will not include/require SAS), which should help customers install it more quickly due to a smaller application footprint, as well as allow for evaluations and an EA program.
- Sales Training: Continue running the sales training series with a strong focus on industry, looking for ways to use this series for onboarding purposes.
- Resource Library: Maintain resource library to ensure that we are providing useful content for our Sales teams, building new resources to fill any product knowledge gaps, making all content easy to find and easy to understand, ensuring consistency between pages.
- Partner Program: Find better solutions/methods to collect accurate data from each of our partners as well as continue education student licensing.
- Thought Leaders: Bringing in partners, SME, thought leaders to meet with Development teams to share their expertise to shape and guide development.
- Processes and Communication: Continue to define/streamline/facilitate the flow of information from customer to Development to Marketing/Sales.
