converter for TDMS files from Labview/NIDo we have any workaround to import TDMS files (NI Labview measurement data) into JMP.
I searched and could not find something relevant. I got around an Excel Export functionality from Labview, but it cracks up the file name which one need to manually (or batch job) change. All possible to do but with huge effort if you have hundreds of those files to be imported.
However, I thought/hoped there is anyone aware of a ready to use converter or interface.
Re: converter for TDMS files from Labview/NIHi Martin,
It appears that there may be a Python package available for this. Since Python is free and supported by JSL, maybe this would be easier for folks than dealing with dlls.

Re: converter for TDMS files from Labview/NIThanks Peter and Jason,
I know LabView from my MathWorks days as well and there was a way to save out the TDMI files to a .mat file MATLAB directly can word with. This would be an option if the customer would have MATLAB so we could interact within a script. However this customer does not have it.
Your suggestions help to show the options available. Thanks.
Re: converter for TDMS files from Labview/NIHey Martin, I used Labview for many years and always ran into problems with using TDMS files—they’re great in the LabView environment but not so easy to use outside. TDMS files store a fair bit of additional data that is probably not necessary for use in JMP. A work around I’ve used in the past is to peel out the data from the VI that I want to use and drop it into a .csv or excel file. As I recall, this is pretty straightforward on the LabView programming side (at least in my instance). https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Convert-Import-TDMS-to-Excel/td-p/1088746?profile.language=en
I assume the customer is wanting to automate this process so this may not help but TDMS files can be opened in Excel and exported .xlsx, .csv, etc. with an add-in…

Re: converter for TDMS files from Labview/NIHi Martin,
I could not find a ready made solution either. I think there are a couple of options though.
There is a TDM C DLL available for download that allows third-party applications to read from TDMS files. This would require someone to write some code to communicate with the DLL. May take some effort but this seams to be the recommended solution from what I have read.
I have used File I/O VIs in the past and know they work. Probably not an ideal solution if TDMS is standard. Could provide an interim solution if used in parallel with TDMS.
It has been a few years since I have used LabView. There may be other solutions out there that a smart LabView programmer will know. Is there a resident LabView expert the customer can consult with? LabView tech support is no where near as good as ours but its not bad either. If there is no resident expert a tech support call may help.
Enjoy!
