3/10/25 Update
I bought a new Mac Mini and installed Office 365 this weekend. The process and results are a little different now and there's good news and one thing I liked better the first time. The good news is SAS permits up to 15 Office 365 installs, 5 laptops, 5 tablets and 5 phones and they can be a mixture of work and personal, Windows and Mac. The thing I liked better last time was you ended up with a personal subscription, so for example, you got a personal OneDrive with 5GB of storage. You also got versions of Outlook, Teams, OneDrive that didn't require SAS managing your personal devices. Now, you can still get all the Office 365 apps, but they are part of the SAS account and SAS management of the device is required for apps that present a security risk, like Outlook, Teams and OneDrive. There is an alternative if you want a personal subscription that's independent from SAS, which is the Microsoft Home Use Program. This allows employees to purchase Microsoft products at a discount, family plan for MS 365 is currently $91/year and personal plan is $70/year. The discounts continue after the first year as long as recurring billing is turned on.
The links below are for the SAS policy and instructions for installation (with a comment that mentions 15 installs are permitted).

===============================
Here is a how-to guide for anyone interested in installing Microsoft Office on your personal device. In my case, I installed it on my personal Macbook but the process should be very similar for installing on a Windows machine.
If you go through the steps, you will have Office apps loaded on your machine without paying anything to Microsoft. You will even get a little personal OneDrive storage (5GB). Of course, if you want more storage, you can buy it from Microsoft.
First of all, here is the SAS policy Knowledge Base article KB0013415.
The current policy reads:
"Office 2016 is now part of Office 365, a subscription service available to all SAS employees. You can install Office 2016 on up to 5 machines (PCs or Macs), 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones and they can be a mix of business or personal. On a personal machine, you can install Office from http://office.com. Two-factor authentication is required."
