Happy World Statistics Day
On October 20, data enthusiasts from around the globe celebrate the third World Statistics Day. Organized under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission, World Statistics Day brings the statistical community together to recognize the role statistics plays in making the world a better place. JMP is planning to celebrate the day, and our standing as a world leader in statistical analysis software, through a series of special events and activities on the JMP Community,
The Trusted Data Pledge
This year’s World Statistics Day theme, “Connecting the world with data we can trust,” reflects on the importance of trust, authoritative data, innovation and the public good in statistical systems, matching perfectly with JMP's mission.
At JMP, we believe with great software and a curious mind, anything is possible. For more than 30 years, we've helped organizations around the world extract insights from data to tackle important social issues like improving public health and conserving natural resources. Of course, real change isn’t possible if you’re not confident in the data.
To help advance this cause, and reinforce this year's theme, we're asking JMP users - and anyone else who works with data - to take the Trusted Data Pledge, By taking the pledge, signees commit to providing trustworthy data "today and everyday," and dedicating themselves to connecting the world with authoritative data and sound statistical practices.
Anyone who completes the form earns a badge in the JMP User Community indicating their support of the pledge. If they are a JMP User Community member, we'll send them their badge immediately. If not, they'll be asked to complete the pledge and then join the Community—after which we’ll send them their badge.
Shared Statistical Discussions
To encourage data-focused conversations we also plan to post fun and engaging conversation starters to the JMP Community. Four different questions will ask what statisticians do to ensure that their data is trustworthy; to name their favorite statistician and why; to share their favorite trusted data source; and to give examples of how statistics has made a difference in their lives. The top kudoed commenters at the end of the week are eligible to get a copy of "Invisible Women" by Caroline Criado Perez.
Sharing Key JMP Statistical Resources
In addition, we plan to celebrate World Statistics Day by recommending top JMP statistical resources through social media posts throughout the week. These relate to statistics as a discipline, or directly to the theme. All are FREE and relevant for a broad audience. Best of all, they show our commitment to expanding the knowledge of statisticians, data scientists, data enthusiasts, and aspiring data scientists.
Even More to Celebrate
in addition to all the planned activities noted above, we'll run a blog post about World Statistics Day and publish a variety of social media posts designed to keep the conversation going through the end of the week. Please plan to share any JMP related posts and insights or notes on your personal social media channels.
