Track JMP usageHi all,
I have a question from the IT group of a customer with a lot of licenses spread globally. They have two questions about how to track who is using JMP in their organization:
1) Is there a way to determine who is accessing their desktop-versions of JMP, as well as when, how often and for how long?
2) They often distribute add-ins to all desktop users without having them install them manually. Is there a way for them to install an add-in on a user's desktop without the user's involvement?
Re: Track JMP usageHi Chris,
Alright, thanks, I will definitely put those suggestions forward as well.
Re: Track JMP usageHi Hadley,
There are other ways to manage Add-ins as well. A start up script to go find the latest version of the add-in and install it or go look inside a folder on a network drive and if add-ins exist, install them.
As for tracking, I heard of one customer tying the permission to use the program to their Active Directory permissions and another to look up in an Oracle database to see if they are allowed to have access to JMP, then allow them to use it once they login into a computer (even install it on that computer automatically).
I am sure there are many different ways one can track if someone has launched a program as well (jmp.exe running in the task manager for example) that IT could use to track usage.
Re: Track JMP usageHi Jeff,
Perfect, thank you. I will share your add-in with customer, I think that should do the trick.

Regarding software tracking, I understand it's not something we do. I'm wondering about whether to advise the customer to write a start-up script that, perhaps sends an email or write to a central table every time JMP is opened. Maybe that's a good way to track usage without us needing to get involved?
I wrote a prototype for this: Launch Logger - track each time JMP is launched on a machine
Re: Track JMP usageThanks Brian. This may be a good option since they haven't yet upgraded to 15.2. They can perhaps add the Add-in files to the software depot before telling their users to upgrade to 15.2, and they'd be installed during the installation process.

Re: Track JMP usageHi Hadley,
Regarding the add-in deployment. You don't mention the OS but I've attached the Windows deployment guide. If you look on page 7 it will detail "Adding Custom Files to a Software Depot" that includes add-ins. This would make the add-in part of the installation process.
I know of no way to track usage with JMP. There are lots of third party system software tools to provide that information, but it's not a business we want to get into.
