Executive summary:
- Download and install the attached JMP Add-in
- Launch the ratings application from your Add-Ins menu
- Ratings are saved automatically
- Submit ratings by noon ET, 15May2018
It's time to rate the papers!
What a great response. We received more than 100 abstracts for papers and posters for Discovery Summit. Now the hard work of selecting papers begins.

We will be using the attached JMP Add-in for the ratings process.
Please download the add-in and install it in JMP 13 or 14 (if you don't have JMP 13 or 14, please let me know!).
After installing it you will find a Rate Papers for Discovery US 2018 item in your Add-Ins menu.
Choose this item and you can start the ratings process. You are asked to rate each paper/poster on a 5 point scale.

Notes:
- You may find it useful to page through the attached PDF of the abstracts before using the app to rate them. This will give you an opportunity to see all the prospects before rating them.
- Use the Next and Previous buttons to move among the papers. Your ratings are saved automatically when you move to the next or previous paper.
- The Save button under the Comments field is only necessary if you're typing a long comment and want to make sure it's saved along the way.
- The Pop Out button will create a new window with the current paper. This is handy if you want to compare two papers on the screen at the same time.
- You can use the check boxes or the Advanced Filter to limit the papers shown.
- The Distributions report shows the number of papers you've assigned for each rating 1 through 5.
- You can close the window at any time and pick back up again later.
When you are done rating papers click the Submit button to send the results back to me (jeff.perkinson@jmp.com).
The application should open a new mail message and attach a JMP data table with your ratings. Please check for the attachment before sending. If the attachment isn't there, you'll find the ratings in a folder named Discovery on your desktop.
Please submit your ratings by noon ET on 15May2018.
Let me know if you have any difficulty. You can post a comment on this thread in the JMP User Community or contact me directly.

I've updated the add-in and it should now work with JMP 14.
If you've already started rating the papers DO NOT REINSTALL the add-in. You'll lose your progress.
I'm sorry for the difficulty.

Jeff, a few questions about ranking the abstracts.
- Are there any requirements around how we rank these? Or is it just what we think is best?
- Would you like to see an even distribution of 1-5?
- Should we take into account the Application Area or Skill Level when giving a ranking?
- When a person puts in multiple topics, do you want each of those ranked individually, or should we try to highlight the top one? (One pair put in 11 abstracts, so i wasn't sure)
Right now you're just rating the abstracts in isolation. Don't worry about ranking them unless you find that you are ending up with all of one rating. Then go back and think about abstracts in comparison one with another.
After I receive all the ratings I'll average them for each paper and rank the papers based on that average. We'll then use that ranking during our phone call to make the final decisions on which papers are in the program. At that time we'll ask you to try to balance Application Area, Skill Level and other factors to make sure we've got the best program of papers that we can get.
As for multiple papers for the same presenter we'll probably try to end up with only one paper per presenter.
Thanks for asking!
Re: Please rate the abstracts for Discovery Summit 2018We asked the presenters to specify what level of JMP user the presentation was aimed at using a 1-beginner to 4-advanced scale.
Here's a histogram of the papers/posters that were submitted.

The Type of User asks who the presentation is aimed at, Programmer, Manager, or Analyst.

Thanks for the clarification.
Re: Please rate the abstracts for Discovery Summit 2018What the abstract options/definitions for Skill Level and Type of User?
Re: Please rate the abstracts for Discovery Summit 2018A couple of addenda:
- The add-in isn't working very well with JMP 14 on Windows. We are working on it and hope we will have an updated version soon. In the meantime, the add-in works in JMP 13.
- The original title of this post said it was time to rate the abstracts for Discovery Summit 2017. That's not right! I've updated the title here to reflect the correct year.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks!
