Understand basics of JMP mapping
- Geographic Maps can be built using JMP's Graph Builder platform
- Geographic Map can be built using latitude and longitude
- Other Geographic Maps can be built using named shapes and these must have associated map shape files. These files are special data tables that describe the map shapes.
- Map shape files can be stored in a special directory where JMP will search when building Geographic Maps. Alternatively, map shape files can be stored anywhere and referenced as a column property. It is also possible to point to map shape files from Graph Builder.
- JMP recognizes several map shapes out of the box, including Countries and States.
- Map shape files are readily available on the internet. Search for "ESRI" shape files.
  Custom map shapes can also be defined and there is a JMP add-in to make this easy to do.

On Mac: /Library/Application Support/JMP/version_number/Samples/Import Data

Note: for JMP PRO, use directory name JMPPRO. If you cannot see the file, you might need to change the file type to All Files.
