To: All Americas SEs, Technical Enablement, and others
As I’ve said before, we will need all Americas SEs, the Technical Enablement team, and others to staff events during JMP Discovery.
Below is a list of some of the assignments we will need help with (and don’t worry, we will offer training and instruction on these roles):
- Breakout room host for Meet the Developers: You’ll be stationed in a breakout room alongside one or more members of our development staff or tech support staff. You’ll greet attendees in the chat window as they come into your breakout room and ask about their question. You’ll keep a queue of the next person to ask a question and, when appropriate, call on them to ask their question. You’ll also moderate the conversation as you’re able, to ensure it’s not dominated by one person.
- Paper presentation host: You’ll be the host of a Zoom meeting for a simu-live presentation. You’ll set Zoom options to make the meeting run smoothly (e.g., not allowing participants to unmute themselves), and introduce a Steering Committee member who will introduce the paper author. You’ll then use screen sharing to share the recording of the paper. While the recording is playing, the author answers questions in chat. At the recording’s conclusion, you will change Zoom settings to allow participants to unmute and the Steering Committee member will open the floor for questions. You’ll end the meeting once the questions and discussion have run their course.
- Birds of a Feather room host: You’ll host a Zoom breakout room, nominally focused on a single topic (e.g., Reliability, Six Sigma, Energy, Ecology and Conservation, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering). You’ll await participants as they enter at different times and do your best to facilitate the conversation but don’t feel obligated to have preset topics. The goal is a networking session between attendees.
- Social Hour facilitator: This one is a little more relaxed. You’ll facilitate a Zoom breakout room during the social hour. On the first day we’ll be focused on first-time Discovery attendees, helping them feel welcome and making sure they know the cool things they can do. The academic industry networking session will be the second day. JMP Users Groups will be the third day.
There will be other roles and responsibilities but these are the biggest ones.
This is your chance to express your preference for the roles you want to play. So, please go to this form and let me know.
