Willy Shih is a Professor of Management Practice at Harvard Business School. He teaches Technology and Operations Management, and Building and Sustaining a Successful Enterprise. He also teaches in the Executive Education program. His keynote speech at Discovery Summit 2012 is about restoring American competitiveness in manufacturing, a talk based on his award-winning co-authored article on the same subject published in the Harvard Business Review. 2012 JMP Discovery Summit - as good as ever, thanks to the JMP staff led by Diane Levy. Speakers were great. Now learning about Predicitve Modeling - still reinventing myself per Willy Shih.

Willy Shih is unusual in that he teaches at the Harvard Business School yet is an engineer and not an accountant/MBA type. He is a dynamic speaker, and most importantly, he champions statistical thinking and especially Design of Experiments. His main theme is whether outsourcing hardware manufacturing, e.g. cameras, has a long term negative effect in future viability of other industries, e.g. film (Kodak). I wonder if the same thing is happening with airplanes (Boeing, Lockheed) and outsourcing of jet engines to China and Brazil.
