Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi,
I have a SAS colleague asking if we have a demo on how to connect JMP to SAS Viya, ideally as a video or blog post. Anyone?
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi Hadley,
This comes up in the recommendations on the right... Leveraging Python and REST to Introduce SAS ® Viya TM Processing With JMP ®
@Byron_JMP may be your guy!
Kind Regards,
Ben
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi,
Thanks for the response Ben. I saw that as well but wondered if there was a more direct way than going through Python. Nevertheless, I fed that back to our colleague, as well as pointing out the SAS Database connector, and got this as a response:
"If you are in the JMP interface, you can indeed connect to a SAS database on a SAS server with the “server connections” tab. However, this easy way of connection is not available for the newest version of SAS, SAS Viya. (SAS Viya is the new SAS 9 platform) This customer has an extensive SAS usage and we are trying to convince them to move to Viya. They are using the current connection possibilities and they want to know how to do it with Viya."
Does anyone know if this is possible, or if there is a plan to develop a direct connection to SAS Viya if one doesn't exist already. This is the first time someone has asked for this and I'm not sure what the demand looks like overall.
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi @HadleyMyers,
They don't need to use the Python.
Perhaps I am not understanding the question or customer problem/need but why not just use JSL and http request?
With http request they could build out any type of demo they want.
They can get access to any of the CAS Actions specific to the SAS products the customer has licensed.
Here is some JSL to demo connecting to a CAS server, submitting a CAS action, exporting to CAS, importing to CAS.
One could build the UI to prompt for the CAS server, username and password.
cheers,
Stan
//Connect to CAS
CAS Connect( URL( ut_casserver ), Username( ut_casuser ), Password( ut_password ), Prompt( "IfNeeded" ) );
cas = Current CAS Connection();
//Submit CAS Action
action = New CAS Action();
action << Action( "builtins.serverStatus" );
cas << Submit( action );
//Export to CAS
dt = Open( "$SAMPLE_DATA\Animals.jmp" );
rc = CAS Export Data( dt, "Casuser", "Animals" );
//Import from CAS
cas_dt = CAS Import Data( "Casuser", "Animals.sas7bdat" );
//Close datatables
Close( dt, nosave );
Close( cas_dt, nosave );
//Terminate sessions and disconnect
CAS Terminate Sessions();
CAS Disconnect();
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi Stan,
Thanks for the response. There's probably something I'm not understanding as well, but I will feed this back to them and see what happens.
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS Viya@stan_koprowski is correct, in JMP 15 we added the ability to connect to a VIYA/CAS environment, exchange data, run CAS Actions and more all through JSL made possible by the HTTP Request(); function behind the scenes.
If you look in @brady_brady 's JMP 15 training starter there is a section on SAS CAS and JMP integration. We've got an open stack instance, which your credentials should work on. You just need to change line 4 to your user name.
This includes several other examples and a quick start guide. Is there something else you need?

I've also attached a higher-level presentation we've used about JMP and SAS integration, if that is helpful.
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi,
This is all extremely helpful, thank you. I didn't understand the connection between SAS Viya and SAS CAS. I'll try it out and see if it works for me.

Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaWhen I run the CAS Connect script, I get a message saying "CAS Server(Not Connected)" in the log.
cas = CAS Connect(URL("http://sasbeb.gtp-americas.sashq-d.openstack.sas.com:8777"),Username("snlhmy"), Prompt("IfNeeded"));
The script compiles fine, I get the prompt to put in my password. JMP thinks for 20 seconds or so, but then the "not connected" message in the log appears. I'm VPN'ed in, that's not the issue. Is the URL link still correct?
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi Hadley,
It looks like the sasbeb.gtb-americas server is offline.
Try replacing that server with this one:
http://viya35.stg.sashq-d.openstack.sas.com:8777/
cheers,
Stan
Re: Demo for JMP connection to SAS ViyaHi Stan,
Yes, that seems to work, I now get the connection information in the log. Thank you!
