Is it possible to change to the width of the bars in bar graphs?
We are trying to make our bars thinner, but can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks!
Yes. In ABI's post above, he has an example of this. You can make the bars thinner, but the graph space won't change. So you'll have skinny bars but a huge x-axis still.
Thank you for your detailed response!
The graph the JMP generated does look good, we just wanted to change the bar width for aesthetic reasons.
But i'm glad to know that this isn't an option going forward, thanks!
I believe it will come in JMP 14, so pretty sure it cannot be controlled in earlier versions of JMP.
Hi All
As i understand, you can just drag the cornor, then you will get a thiner bar chart, but the Axis title will not smaller. please correct me if i`m wrong.

Hi DET,
Are you trying to do this in Graph Builder? Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any place where you can specify a pixel width for the bars and/or the space between the bars (options like this are usually in Right-Click=>Customize, but I didn't see any options for Bars).
It looks like another JMP user had a similar question recently with box plots, and the answer was "you can't adjust width manually like that" in that thread, so it might be the same case here.
You can kinda-sorta fake it, though, by dragging the image's borders -- so you won't be modifying bar width exactly, just constraining the amount of space given and forcing the bars to be thinner.
Option 1: Drag the edge of the frame inward (mouse icon will turn to double-arrow)

The problem with this is that it will only let you go so far, and there's still a lot of white space between bars (which I cannot figure out how to reduce).
Option 2: Drag the edges of the X-axis inward (mouse icon will turn into sideways hand)

Unfortunately this makes thin bars, but gives a huge white space to the right (and the X-axis label isn't aligned nicely)
So not a great solution, either.
Maybe it would be better to have a discussion on why the bars need to be thinner, and then see if there is another way of displaying the data that would be easy to read and visually pleasing
. Could you post an image of what you have now, and what message you're trying to get across for your customers?
