Key Takeaways:
- JMP R&D Development is much more forward looking and current.
- "JMP is on the current edge of data science, where Minitab is not."
- Support & Resources JMP makes available far exceeds that of Minitab.
- "JMP has the deep technical, industry expertise needed to understand core business needs."
- "JMP has a huge amount of FREE resources available - webcasts, whitepapers, STIPS, SKP, community - JMP is not just software, but software AND support".
- Question to ask "What is the value of having access to JMP's level of FREE training and support?"
- Minitab does not have the capability to perform analyses at the scale and speed of JMP.
Where you will find Minitab:
- All industries engaged in SixSigma, Process Excellence, and other quality initiatives (e.g., automotive, biotech, medical device, pharma, any many other manufacturing-based companies)
- Quality Engineers, Product/Process Engineers
Where does JMP have an advantage over Minitab?
JMP’s Product Development efforts in creating new features is faster and more current than those developed at Minitab
- Minitab is predominately focused on SixSigma/Quality applications
- JMP’s development efforts are much broader with techniques developed to solve a wide range of industry problems.
- JMP’s platforms support more sophisticated problems
JMP’s Superior Support and Resources
- Highly technical (and industry) experts throughout the country available to provide custom support.
- A much more comprehensive supply of free resources (community, tutorials, books, instructional guides, technical papers, etc.)
JMP’s Speed & Scale of Analysis Platforms
- All of JMP’s tools provide the ability to perform a large number of multiple analyses simultaneously while Minitab is designed more for one off analyses. JMP also has tools custom designed for highly dimensional problems that Minitab does not have. There are many analysis tasks that is merely point-and-click in JMP that is not even possible to perform in Minitab without very laborious manual work or creating custom macros.
-
(From Alisa) Users need to have more statistical "foresight" in Minitab than JMP. For example, in Minitab, you have to know what regression is (continuous Y & continuous ) vs JMP, you give it the Y & the X & JMP will figure it out based on the modeling types. You have to know ahead of time in Miinitab what you want to do. In JMP, it's more exploratory & "on the fly".
Where does Minitab have an advantage over JMP?
Reputation/Entrenchment in the SixSigma/Quality market
- Minitab was the chosen statistical software in the SixSigma/Quality market and thus got entrenched in many companies during the past 20-25 years. Many companies have spent decades training all their staff in using Minitab with much training materials, internal documentation, and accepted standards developed using Minitab.
License
- Minitab offers a concurrent license model that allows a company to provide access to every employee with lower cost than it would be to provide JMP. This is a great advantage when, for example, a company of thousands of employees may need everyone to access Minitab at some point but it never results in more than say 50 people using at any one time.
New capabilities in Minitab that have helped them close the gap with JMP?
