Sales Highlights
VanDeMark Chemical (23 Jun 2020 – NY)
VanDeMark Chemical, the leading manufacturer of phosgene derivatives used to produce agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, coating, plastics, electronics, personal care items, flame retardants and more, recently added 12 JMP licenses.
Tracey Bailey explains the situation at VanDeMark: “The current data storage system, IQMS, was being used for control charting but was described as ‘clunky’ and incapable of providing the insight VanDeMark needed for effective process control. The current system was also unable to perform full statistical analysis and to manipulate data easily. The R&D group had used Minitab for simple experimental design but were not active DOE practitioners due to Minitab’s limitations in DOE.”
The sale was a result of the long-lasting influence that Lou Valente continues to have with JMP customers. Tracey says, “Scott Honan, Plant Manager at VanDeMark, spent 18 years at Eastman Kodak. He was introduced to JMP there, and Lou was a key resource for him. Scott wanted to bring the same results he got with JMP at Eastman Kodak to VanDeMark. This is a great example of why it is so important to keep track of our power users when they change jobs.”
JMP will be used for data analysis for VanDeMark’s chemical manufacturing processes to mine historical data for potential insights and inform future experiments and process optimization activities. Tracey concludes, “VanDeMark has a large amount of process data but wasn’t able to analyze it fully. The R&D group was impressed with the flexibility of the Custom Design platform for mixture process designs, which has allowed experimental questions to drive the design creation process. VanDeMark hopes to use JMP to implement more rigorous quality activities and locate methods to reduce the variability in its processes.”

First Sensor AG (28 Jan 2020 – DACH T1)
First Sensor AG, one of the world's leading suppliers of sensor technology for industrial, medical and mobility markets, recently acquired 10 JMP licenses.
According to Manuela Merkhofer, the sale was jumpstarted by a customer’s activities on LinkedIn. Manuela says, “I noticed that JMP customer Victor Kessler, a process engineer, had changed companies. In October 2018, he moved from TDK Sensor to First Sensor.” Although Victor remained very enthusiastic about JMP, the sales cycle at First Sensor was long and tedious, specifically since Victor had to pass a six-month trial period at his new job. Manuela stayed in touch with him throughout his probationary period. She says, “When time was right, we introduced JMP to his colleagues at his new company. At First Sensor, Victor works with process technology sensor dies in chip manufacturing and process monitoring. He saw that First Sensor was struggling with a high reject rate, late times to market and an inability to find error sources easily. With Victor’s previous positive experience with JMP and First Sensor’s clear need, we were able to close the deal.”
