What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?In single-column recode, if you specify "Formula Column", you get a nice formula containing your recode script.
The option to Script Sequence of Actions is there when you recode via Standardize Attributes as well, but where does the script end up? There is no "New Column/Formula Column/In Place" option, so what does this option do?
Thanks!
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?Hey Jerry, I believe you can grab the script by publishing to Formula Depot and then choosing [Show/Copy] Script under the RT. That script can be dropped back into a column formula with a couple modifications (copy just the Recode() function portion and specify the column name). Would be a nice addition to be able to save directly to column formulas like in single column recode.
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?Thanks Ross. Since Formula Depot is Pro only, I'm guessing the Scripting option under Recode must be disabled for standard JMP? So (short of writing a custom script in JSL) there's no way for standard JMP to save the Recode script from Standardize Attributes. Or am I missing it?
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?According to the documentation for Recode:
Script sequence of actions
Attempts to save your actions to a script and omit the data, For example, if you convert all strings to uppercase using the red triangle option, the generated script contains code that converts input strings to uppercase without including the data.
Perhaps @ErnestPasour can shed more light, and @sheila_loring can incorporate that light into the doc.
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?That's my take on it too, though it seems like saving the recode script when using Standardize Attributes shouldn't be limited to Pro. I suppose a workaround is to recode a single column to a formula column, copy that formula and use Standardize attributes to drop it a group of empty columns, and then use the Substitute Column Reference option to reference all the other columns that still need recoding. Not the easiest solution, but it should get the job done.
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?The existence of those controls is an oversight. I have removed both Publish and the extra checkboxes in the 15.2 release. The same recode dialog is used for the normal single-column case and for standardize attributes (and for recode in Text Explorer). Those extra UI widgets were left inadvertently.
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?Would it be possible in a future release to include the option to recode to formula columns when recoding from standardize attributes?
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?Perhaps. I have to figure out how it should work in various cases (save to formula column vs. save to script window, for instance). But it should be possible.
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?There's an open defect for this: http://sww.sas.com/defects/java/iDefects/WebClient.html?defectid=S1502438
We're past feature freeze for 16, but possible for 17. As this is a feature request, @RossM, can you please post on the Internal Wish List?
Thanks!
Re: What does "Script sequence of actions" do when using Standardize Attributes/Recode?Thanks for the reminder, @mia_stephens. Done!
