ASPENTECHHello dear friends,
a customer is comparing ASPEN Pro MV from ASPENTECH to JMP Pro. I'm not familiar with Aspentech. There are especially two statements that I want to know more about:
- ASPEN's curve analysis is the closest to FDE in the market
- An advantage of ASPEN is their ability to deploy scoring code for online use.
I did some web research but I wasn't able to find any insight in how ASPEN estimates curves and/or relates them to scalar parameters.
With respect to online use of scoring code I found that they have an OLE interface to models and that they can link their modeling tool to current or historical data from production systems. For me that looks a little bit more like JMP Live rather than scoring code which I would expect could be integrated into other software like production management systems.
Are there any experiences with ASPEN in general and/or these topics?
Thanks and best regards
Bern
Re: ASPENTECHHi Bernd,
could not find anything, but due to their statement beeing a multivariate platform I bet they use an PLS approach. However it's hard to find anything but the marketing videos they provide.
Re: ASPENTECHThanks Nick,
that gives me a lot of confidence to ask that customer a few questions
Re: ASPENTECHHi Bernd,
ProMV was originally developed by a Canadian company called ProSensus. In 2016 they sold it to AspenTech. Since it was developed in Toronto, I encounter many organizations that are using it to analyze data. A few months ago I had a JMP user who also has access to ProMV walk me through all the options & capabilities available in the tool so I could understand first-hand the difference between it and our JMP products. Every ProMV analysis he showed me could easily be reproduced in JMP.
I did not see anything that was similar to FDE in JMP Pro. ProMV analyses curves using straightforward PCA or PLS. Curves are transformed into multivariate variables and analyzed as control-charts/score-plots using an interface similar to JMP's Model Driven Multivariate Control Chart (MDMVCC) platform. From there you can highlight different multivariate points, compare them, and drill down to the variables contributing to the differences in points. As far as I know, before MDMVCC was added in JMP 15, ProMV was the only tool in the market which offered that capability. AspenTech makes many products, I don't know if they have another product with capabilities similar to FDE but I did not see that capability in ProMV.
As you know in JMP Pro, using the formula depot we can create python or Java code for deployment in an online system. Dependent on their intended application you could integrate those JMP models into another product or as you mentioned possibly create and publish the report with JMP Live to satisfy that requirement.
Let me know if you need any additional details, happy to assist.
