JMP related Training Programs
The DAS team at ExxonMobil oversees Training and Adoption - Garrett Pike, Casey Ofomo (US, Canda, Latin America) and Marco Salfi (EMEA / AP). Mentoring is relied upon heavily with around 1 week per month in each region. With JMP EDU coming up under JMP from SAS, they will be leveraging partners for most of these services.
Mentoring Setup
Completed Mentoring Projects
•Compressor is going down. Downtimes are longer and more frequent. – We discovered aromatics seemed to be playing a role, which engineers had just been considering.
•Chemical Supply Chain – Why are things late? Can lead to better rate negotiation
•Data Analytics Optimization group – discuss/show JMP capabilities for predictive modeling
•Pricing Models – Several of these. One has lead to more than $1 million in savings per year.
Future Mentoring Projects
•Quality Customer Feedback investigation
•Real-Time Manufacturing Optimization: interested in finding outliers
•Predicting price spreads
•Predicting quality issues
•Inventory management simulations
•Maximizing production
•Modeling/Analysis tips – how to fit distributions, etc.
•Improving Rail Turn Times
Part of the rollout of JMP includes:
- Tutorials
- E-learning
- Exxon Community of Practive - Yammer (internal systems)
- Exxon Demos (1-2 hour tech presentations to get the word out)
- JMP Days
- JMP Consultancy
- JMP Training Classes
- SOW-based
- Data Lake Project – connect JMP to data lakes for “automated” data loading
- Consulting/Mentoring Projects – One full week every two months with two instructors
- Mfg Training Mentoring – Three days every three months with an instructor
- Corrosion Monitoring Toolkit – Front-end and common analyses to monitor pipeline corrosion
- JMP Bootcamp Sessions (Globally)
- STIPS

Tableau - several Customer Success Stories available on Tableaus´Website (videos and blogs)
- ExxonMobil: Building a Culture of Safety using Tableau
- ExxonMobil Data Quality Center achieves 95% time savings
Power BI
- "We had a team of five people working on this, and they built it from scratch. The ease of use of the Azure services and the support we got from Microsoft made that possible. "

Notes on Technical Engagement
Activity
1.14.19 Team Call with Education - Dan Obermiller (SAS education) , Dara, Scott, Dan D., Laura
- Summary of ongoing education work from Dan O. and key people. Also see Powerpoints from Dan O and some updates from Nolan – notes go along with these.
- Education is doing a lot of project and mentoring now.
- Brian Lawless, VP - MSBMR = mentoring for Business Model Redesign. MAIN driver of JMP! Loves to see what JMP can do and is very involved. Champion and user
- Michel Jannse - reports to Brian Lawless above (Michel - pronounced like girls name – He is Dutch) - primary contact for Projects – Team Lead. Responsible for Exxon Mobil research. Want to get more with jmp.
- Current - use excel into powerpoint. Want to change the paradigm into JMP live presentation. Answer questions live. This is their vision.
- Training Plan- tutorials - built into JMP. Have purchased all the elearning. Set up Exxon Community of Practice on Yammer for Internal Q&A.
- Mark Chahl - Champion - running demonstration to show capabilities, show JMP, etc.
- They have not done training classes.
- Plan on face to face JMP days Globally.
- Current mentoring with Dan. O. - a week at a time. The idea is they work with a project team with a project. Give that project a significant push to moving into using JMP. Get them away from Excel and Powerpoint.
- Few teams have Tableau - pre-designed template was a hated feature. Abandoning Tableau for JMP happily.
- Example of a project – JMP used for a contract pricing model - some fuel. Minimum buy and maximum use. Profiler - tool to see how to set bounds - saved over $1,000,000/yr already.
- Di is building front end for data lake. - topic?
- Other projects were about pipeline Corrosion; Fuels and Lubes, Tanker logistics
- Dan O. was working in Texas right now. Earlier in 2018 he was at their research center in Clinton, NJ. Did DOE there. Don’t know how much they have adopted JMP.
2.26.19 WebEx FDE demonstration – Peter Hersh
- Evan Morris - Utilizing FDE had some questions about generating FPCs out of whole crude oil to determine properties of the constituents. Walked him through some of the changes from 14.1 to 14.2 and showed how he can better utilize the tool.
3.20.19 JMP Day Calgary – Peter Hersh, Chris Kirchberg, Jian Cao, Nick Shelton, Dara Hammond, Christy Spain
- Rowie Deleon hosted us in setting up the meeting. We had 80-90 attendees to watch the basics of JMP. Prepping data for analysis, EDA, Graph builder and platform overview. Michel told the group where to go for help including the internal website and e-learning as well as STIPs.
- Only about ¼ of group currently uses JMP.
4.24.19 JMP Hands on Workshop – Peter Hersh, Jerry Cooper
- Javier Parra hosted a hands-on workshop similar to what had been done in Rotterdam. We walked through basics of EDA, quality and simple model building in the morning roughly 15 people attended.
- Evan Morris had us add on a section on Functional data explorer for the group. Evan has a lot of really good ideas and energy around how FDE can be used at Exxon. We walked through with the 10 people who stayed for the afternoon lots of good discussions.
- Javier mentioned there is an analytic group that he thought it would be good for us to come to the meetings via Skype would be good.
