Keynote presentation and JMP Journal and files from September 12, 2018 P&G JMP Day at Procer and Gamble in Ohio. Video also includes a demonstration of the new 14.2 JMP Public space for sharing JMP with others.
JMP 14: Released March 14, 2018
- Continue to make JMP the software of choice for scientists and engineers to explore data visually. End-to-end analytic workflow.
- Increase ease and efficiency of preparing data.
- Enrich the types of data we handle.
- Big Data problems. Continue to invest in performance as a feature.
- Continue to invest in priority analytic areas - DOE, Quality and Reliability, Consumer Research, Predictive Modeling, Modern Modeling.
- Continue to improve reporting and sharing.
- Continue to improve file and session organization.Continue to invest in automation to make users more efficient.I - End-to-End Workflow0
Recode Refresh
- Ensuring the consistency and accuracy of categorical data has always been one of the most time-consuming and tedious aspects of data cleanup, but Recode in JMP 14 aims to change that. Recode is one of the core tools in JMP that makes data analysis-ready.
- Anyone who needs to clean up messy text or character data, "Data Wranglers".
- Search box allows more control over filtering.
- Improved Text Parsing. Group to new category. Recode numeric continuous columns. RegEx support.
- Publish recode formula to Formula Depot (Pro), which lets you perform data cleanup inline in a production environment without having to bring the data into JMP.
- Import recode results column.
- Create, consume and convert value labels directly from Recode.
- Support for multiple response columns.
HTTP Request
- When you have direct database access and an ODBC driver, you can easily query, join and filter data using Query Builder – but what about the many other rich data sources that you may access through APIs?
- With the new HTTP Request function in JSL, you can now write custom applications to communicate with external web servers.
- JSL also adds new JSON parsing functions to make it easier to get data from the web into JMP.
- JSL scripters, IT types, Data scientists, Database admins, Computer Scientists APIs run the World
JMP Preference Searching
- Preferences have smart search built in now.
Graph Builder Packed Bars
- Graph Builder is the toolbox that helps users find and tell the stories within their data. In JMP 14, Graph Builder adds Packed Bars, a new bar type combining ideas from treemaps and Pareto plots
- At JMP, we aren't just matching capabilities in other software, we are innovating in this (and many other areas including DOE, Stats etc.)
Packed bars capitalize on the idea of context and clarity
Images as Markers
- We continue to invest in ways to utilize expanded data types like images.
- Columns List -> Use for Markers allows a photo to be used a custom marker.
Animated .gif Recording
- The best statistical discoveries are only realized when you can effectively share your results with decision makers. JMP 14 continues to add and enhance tools to share results with other JMP users and people who don’t have JMP.
- Animated .gif recording and saving any place in JMP that there is a play button (Bubble plot, local data filter, column switcher for example) make it possible to embed a moving JMP visualization in a PPT slide, for example, without having to rely on Flash.
Multiple File Import
- Efficiently and accurately combining hundreds or thousands of files into a single one used to require writing a JSL script, but no longer.
- In JMP 14, you can import multiple files into a single data table, or a collection of data tables, with just a few clicks.
- Create a single data table from a set of text files, facilitating Text Explorer pre-processing without JSL.
- Import and concatenate several data files (.csv, .jmp, .txt, ...) into a single data table.
- Anyone who needs to import folders of documents, engineers with periodically written tool logs, those performing text analysis. This is potentially a huge time-saver for non-scripters.
JMP Projects
- Many JMP users have requested a tool to help them with workspace layout and session management. When many data tables, scripts and reports are open at once, it can be challenging to find a desired report.
- Offers a tabbed, browser-like JMP experience.
- Pick and choose which files to include in the project.
- Organize a reconfigurable workspace.
- Share and archive analyses.
- Launch supporting documents (.ppt, .word, .pdf) directly from JMP.
09 - JMP interface to Python
- Python joins the suite of programming language interfaces in JMP, adding to the existing ability to connect to SAS, MATLAB and R. Engineers and scientists can now connect to Python, send data from JMP to Python, execute Python code and return results to JMP for data visualization, analysis and further exploration.
- Data scientists, JSL scripters, IT types, Engineers who use Python.
- This language (and more importantly, its rich ecosystem of libraries) to extend the power of JMP.
- Python to generate visualizations JMP does not yet support.
- Python to read data from a source that would be problematic (though not impossible) to process using only JMP.Python as "glue".
10 - Functional Data Explorer
- Functional Data Explorer (FDE) is JMP Pro’s general purpose tool for visualizing, cleaning, transforming, and extracting meaningful features from functional data.
- Many products are made in batches by machines that now have many sensors embedded in them.
- Sensors record things like temperature, pressure, feed rate, chemical content (ammonia, CO2, ethanol, sugar), vibration, etc.
- Companies care about end results: Yield: the quantity of product created (yield). Quality: Measurable properties of the product (flavor, room temperature viscosity, shear strength, chemical composition).
- They want to predict these properties as early as possible. To fix ‘bad batches’, or terminate their production early/ Reduce occurrence of bad batches (process improvement).
