24 Apr 2020 -- For years, W.L. Gore & Associates had considered moving to a total employee license agreement (TELA) with JMP, but the deal didn’t come together until this month. The ever-increasing need to get JMP Pro in the hands of all Gore’s statisticians and engineers, plus the availability of JMP Live, made 2020 the right time.
The deal adds $183,000 to the TSR this year, and over $500,000 in 2021. That brings Gore’s total renewal to $1,050,000.
As a Premier account at JMP, Gore has more than 2,000 global JMP users and has developed an internal training program to ensure all its scientists and engineers are well-versed in JMP’s use. Chris Chen, Gore’s Director of Enterprise Analytics, says, “We’ve found that nontraditional engineer and science groups are being led by JMP-trained individuals who started their careers years ago at Gore and are moving into management roles. They are excited about the opportunities their employees will have now that JMP Pro and JMP Live will be available to everyone, specifically in regard to making data-driven decisions and having analytics be accessible beyond engineers and scientists.”
Dara Hammond explains, “JMP Live, in particular, was of early interest to W.L. Gore. As an early adopter before the software was released, we met with IT and decision makers several times during the spring of 2019; they also took the time to play with JMP Public. They identified use cases, such as broadcasting near-real-time SPC reporting to all of manufacturing for new products, using more shareable quality-problem reporting rather than their current method of screenshots or PowerPoint, and reporting HR data and reports interactively. Before Dieter Pisot took over, Stan Koprowski was invaluable. He's a wonderful translator between business problems, IT, and product, handling the transition with W.L. Gore as we introduced them to JMP Live.”
But there was an unexpected hiccup. Dara continues, “The JMP Live product and development teams worked closely with IT to understand the infrastructure – and then W.L. Gore went silent. Eventually, at the end of September as its early adoption period ended, Gore came clean: the IT guy went on paternity leave and never installed the software, and they were embarrassed to tell us.”
As the holidays approached in late 2019, Gore had fully vetted JMP Pro with the help of Chris Gotwalt and understood the value it brought. Gore was confident that JMP Live would bring even more power to its enterprise analytics in coming years, especially given Gore’s plans to expand well beyond the typical engineer and science communities. Although its JMP license doesn’t expire until September, Gore was so anxious to get things moving, it secured the budget for immediate spend with the start of its fiscal year on 1 April.
Dara concludes, “The Global Premier Team looks forward to continuing our partnership with W.L. Gore to help spread the use and impact of JMP products far and wide within the company.”
