Did you know if we leave out the second parameter of the informat function, JMP will automatically cycle thru formatting options and deliver it's best guess. Let JMP do that work for us and watch this video to learn how.

Did you know if we leave out the second parameter of the informat function, JMP will automatically cycle thru formatting options and deliver it's best guess. Let JMP do that work for us and let me show you how now.
JMP stores dates and times in numeric columns using the Macintosh standard of as the number of seconds since January 1, 1904. When a column has date values, you can assign a date format to that column by double-clicking a column name and selecting Date or Time from the Format menu.
The argument for the Informat function is a date character string. For example, Informat("03/20/1991") returns the appropriate JMP date value, 2752272000.
Let's create a new data table and enter a variety of date formats that we may expect to see in the first column.
Name that Column, Column Dates.
Create an new Column called Informat Dates and under Column Info lets change the formatting to Dates Abrrev
Now let's Right click our column header and launch the Formula editor.
Find the Date Time and select Informat.
In the first parameter select the Dates Column, then let's delete the second parameter.
Now select apply, and notice all of our dates have been converted.
This same process is also possible using JSL.
Hope this helps your data clean up and formatting and continue to enjoy using JMP.
Thx
You also adjusted the Formatting in Col Info to "Date Abbrev" correct?
Ryan
I attached a data table with some examples. Notice that the second column has the formula:
Informat(Character Date)
The demo will be to show removing selecting the Informat() function from the Date category in the Formula Editor and then removing the second argument.
Your script can point out that the same thing works in JSL.
