Orgin-Data Ananlysis and GraphicSoftware<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />Hello,
Any one familair with a product called Orgin (Data Analysis and Graphic software). My customer is asking how JMP compares to Orgin (http://orginlab.com )?
Thanks,

Re: Orgin-Data Ananlysis and GraphicSoftwareHi Mary,
I came across Origin in Pirelli Tyre almost five years ago. They had problems in creating and printing a 2D graph with tests on rubber samples. That particular graph was easily reproduced with a contour plot. Moreover, with JMP they could finally calculate parameters for non linear relaxation tests that Origin could not do (they used Excel for that with not reliable outputs).

Re: Orgin-Data Ananlysis and GraphicSoftwareI used it for my PhD as well. It's a very different thing from JMP. A big difference is that you can't fit a multiple linear regression model. It's more of a bivariate analysis tool. Although they look to be bringing in things like PCA and cluster in the Pro version.

Re: Orgin-Data Ananlysis and GraphicSoftwareMary,
I used this a little in grad school. It is a nice graphing program and visualization program, but not much on the analysis side of things other than linear and peak fitting. It mostly lives in the academic world.
Orgin advantages over JMP are very nice graphics, Image handling (used it in publications), and peak fitting (I used it for X-ray diffraction).
It does look like Orgin pro maybe more of a competitor for JMP, but never used that product. It does not appear that either product has nearly the analytic power of JMP for things like data mining and predictive modeling.

Re: Orgin-Data Ananlysis and GraphicSoftwareLooks like they have a pretty comprehensive document showing all the features in the product here:
http://cloud.originlab.com/Booklet/
I don't see any DOE, Quality, Data Mining techniques, Reliability Analysis etc.
Looks like the focus is on statistical graphing, basic analysis, 2D and 3D plotting (lots of focus on publication quality), some signal processing and data access/cleanup.
Pricing for the basic AL is similar to JMP FYF ~$1100. Their Pro product is a bit more at $1800.
