Reliability engineers have tough lives and deal with seemingly impossibly difficult problems.
A system you shouldn’t have to repair is the tool you use to build the simulation.
Computers are really good at running simulations.
A close-formed solution for a given problem often doesn’t exist or is really hard to figure out, but with simulation it turns the improbable to the trivial.
Problems are very divese; one algorithm doesn’t fit all. Flexible framework let’s you put together the system characterization for any system.
An airplane engine is usually repaired instead of discarded; it is made from many serviceable components that are repaired if possible. When studying these systems, reliability engineers usually are required to understand:
· The mean time between failures over the “serviceable life” of the unit.
· The availability of the unit; i.e. what proportion of time is the unit functioning, as opposed to broken.
· The expected repair costs over the serviceable life of the unit, either by component or at the number of occurrences, cost per occurrence or duration per occurrence.
· Which components are most responsible for system downtime and maintenance, in terms of the number of occurrences, cost per occurrence or duration per occurrence.
Simulations are often preferred for understanding these systems because there are often situations where it in not plausible to measure.
Reliability engineers who want to simulate the service properties of complex systems such as turbines, aircraft engines, cars, DoD application etc. are interested in setting up to product to maximize availability of their products.
However, in previous versions of JMP, simulation could only be used in contexts where a failure meant end-of-life for the system.
Enter the Repairable System Simulation platform, which lets you forecast, through simulation, the distributions of various types of repair events on complex systems, at both the component and overall level.
With the Repairable Systems Simulation (RSS) platform in JMP Pro you can:
· Can study the availability, reliability and maintainability of various systems configurations.
· Using the results, determine which other subsystems should be simultaneously maintained or repaired, from a preemptive standpoint.
· Forecast cumulative breakdowns and repair costs over a given time horizon.
