DRAFT Activity - Using the Excel Import Wizard and Tabulate

In this demo, we’ll use Excel Import Wizard again that’s launched and available when we Open or drag in an Excel file into JMP.
I’ll open up the “TeamResults” Excel file available in JMP under Sample Data Library then located one folder up in the Import Data folder.
It’s on your computer with a JMP install, so you could also search for it.
After I launch the Excel Import Wizard I’ll select Restore Default Settings.
I’ll locate and select the area in the wizard where it prompts “Column headers start on row.”
Then I’ll select row two in the preview and hit the “+” next to “Column headers start on row”
I only want 1 worksheet of the 2 this Excel files has, so I’ll select and import only one of the Excel worksheets in the top right panel.
If they were all selected and not Concatenated they would be imported as separate JMP data tables.
The preview now looks good to me.
Then select Import.
Now in JMP and Under the Analyze menu, I’ll launch the Tabulate platform.
I’ll drag Winnings to the Columns on top.
Then I’ll drag Member Name to the Rows on left. And finally I’ll select “Add aggregate statistics.”
Here we can view the Sum of all the winnings.
What are the total winnings of all the Members?
Steps:
Open up the “TeamResults” Excel file in the attached sample data in Resources on right. It’s also available in JMP under Sample Data Library then locate Import Data
Select “Restore Default Settings”
Locate and select the area in the wizard where it prompts “Column headers start on row.”
Select row two in the preview and hit the “+” next to “Column headers start on row”
Select only the top worksheet to import
In JMP, under the Analyze select Tabulate.
Drag Winnings to the Columns on top.
Drag Member Name to the Rows on left.
Select Add aggregate statistics.
Note the Total of Winnings.
