New in JMP 13
Is there gold in your data?
You don’t need luck on your side when you have JMP® 13 on your desktop. Introducing the newest version of JMP software, designed to help scientists and engineers discover what’s valuable in their data.
Text Explorer -- 4/8/2016
- Source material from Chris Gotwalt's webcast, journal and Brady's add-in.
In previous versions of JMP, very little could be done with text data. The Categorical platform could do simple word-counts or recode into categories, but JMP lacked the ability to analyze text data in a meaningful way and understand the latent information available in the free text data available to many of our users. JMP 13 provides exploratory and visual tools for basic word and phrase extraction, data cleanup and feature creation.
With Text Explorer you can:
- Create features by generating a set of terms.
- Perform stemming to combine words with common suffixes (-ing, -ed, -s).
- Tokenize -- extract words with possible special processing on regular patterns (e.g. telephone numbers, web addresses, part numbers) using regular expressions.
- Create stop word lists -- words removed from analysis from being too common, too rare or known to be irrelevant and ignorable.
- Recode words by manually changing and grouping the terms by a common word.
- Create graphics, which show words that occur often in documents to quickly and visually identify topics.
So if you have engineering notes, customer surveys or any other text that needs exploring, bring it into JMP 13 and start seeing what might be hidden in your text data.
Virtual Join -- 4/8/2016

For large datasets, the degree to which software efficiently makes use of storage and memory can determine whether a given analysis feasibly can be performed. JMP 13 allows users to join tables virtually, instead of physically, potentially resulting in significant memory and storage savings. Another benefit of this approach is that in many cases, the component tables are not only smaller than a “master” table, but also require less effort to maintain.

Process Screening -- 4/8/2016
Source material from John Sall's webcast and Brady's add-in
Until now, it has been an arduous task to monitor potentially thousands of variables and our groups in your process. Finding the processes that you need to focus on meant sifting through many boring in-control signals to find the ones that need to be addressed. The Process Screening platform makes short work of this task by automatically looking through large numbers of variables or groups, performing control chart calculations and separating the important few signals from the trivial many and letting you focus on just those key few. This can mean big time savings to this daily task.
Process screening joins JMP's other big data screening platforms in a new screening submenu of the analyze menu. Screening is defined for JMP to be the process of looking across a large number of variables or groups, and finding the features that stand out. It often involves a sorting process. Similar to the word sifting, it is looking at groups of data and the data clumps that are big in some sense are caught in the course screens, with the fine-grains dropping to the lower screens.
Dashboard Builder -- 4/11/2016

Dashboards give JMP users the ability to present analytics findings in a summary view. The dashboard summary provides an overview for which users can see a full view of the underlying analytics. Up to now, building dashboards required complex processes. Now, JMP takes users from data to dashboard in a few simple clicks and a matter of minutes -- no coding required.
With Dashboards, you can:
- Select a predefined template to get started or create custom views
- Use drag-and-drop zones for an easy, flexible way to arrange graphs in the dashboard
- Export dashboards as interactive HTML
Compare Designs -- 4/8/2016
Source material from Brady's add-in
JMP now makes it easy to compare designs—even more than two designs. Rather than a manual process, the Compare Designs platform conveniently evaluates each design and collects the results into a single report. This allows you to easily make substantive evaluations based on comparisons across multiple designs. Each report describes the comparison in the following sections:
- Reference Design
- Power Analysis
- Power Plots
- Prediction Variance Profile
- Fraction of Design Space Plot
- Relative Estimation Efficiency
- Relative Std Error of Estimates
- Alias Matrix Summary
- Absolute Correlations
- Design Diagnostics

Projects -- 4/12/2016 Defer to 14

Projects make it easy for you to contain and organize a collection of data tables, reports, scripts, journals, and logs – all within JMP. You can add external files, such as .txt, .ppt, .xls, or image files to a JMP project. These files can remain in their location on-disk and be referenced by the JMP project. By including a folder in a project, all current and future files in that folder will be included in the project.
Projects are also a great way to manage windows while using JMP, giving you a master working window from which you can see and access files contained in the project. A list of project files gives you a ready list of the files in the project so that you continue working in JMP without having to transition to an operating system window for a file.
Interactive HTML Graph Builder and Dashboards
Graph Builder general improvements
Graph Builder, JMP's premier drag-and-drop graph creating utility continues to improve and evolve in every new version of JMP. Some key features in JMP 13 Graph Builder include:
- Updates to the TreeMap element.
- Addition of the Parallel coordinates plot element.
- ...
Export Options -- Create Excel Workbook and Publish Web Report.
You accomplish great things with JMP. Now it’s even easier to show your work to others, and even share it with those who don’t have JMP. You can export a collection of data tables to an Excel workbook with a simple menu selection. Or, quickly build and publish a linked, thumbnail-indexed collection of web reports right from JMP – no add-in needed. These HTML reports offer easy access to an interactive experience with your JMP data.
