In the design of experiments, after narrowing down the factors with a small number of experiments, it is important to model the characteristics using the narrowed down factors and determine the level at which the desired characteristics can be obtained. As a statistical quality control method, the former is called screening and the latter is called modeling, and they are treated separately. In practice, however, both are often implemented as a series of approaches, and screening and modeling experiments need to be planned from a comprehensive perspective in order to achieve the purpose of the experiment. In this presentation, we will review the experimental design of JMP screening and modeling applied in the improvement of machining process and the analysis results. The points of review need to take into account specific goals, constraints to be considered, recommended plans, etc., regarding the creation of a comprehensive experimental plan. After the experiment is conducted, the achievement of goals, cost-effectiveness, and evaluation from stakeholders are also included. In this presentation, we will summarize the issues from the comprehensive viewpoint of the experimental plan and show the prospects for the experimental plan in the future.
