Demos with a ClickShare Dongle

Hi! I’m passing on some knowledge about working with ClickShare (Barco product) in a JMP demo. ClickShare is a USB dongle that provides a wireless connection to a projector. I’ve been seeing it more and more in customer visits. In some cases, this is the only method for connecting to the projector. It can be a really slick - when it works. The following are some notes and pitfalls that I’ve encountered.
- To see the menus in JMP, you need to make one change in the ClickShare software. This is only an issue on Windows. To speed things up (see item 2) ClickShare doesn’t capture all elements being displayed on your screen. This means that menus (sub menus from the top bar, right click menus, etc.) don’t show up on the projector screen. To fix this, go to the tool bar and right click on the Clickshare Icon, and select “Capture More” (see screen shot).

- There are serious lags. Your embedded JMP laser pointer will lag like crazy. There is nothing that you can do about this. Just be aware and adjust your demo style to compensate.
- Mac can be tricky to set up. You need to download the latest ClickShare launcher from the site. Most of the time the version on the dongle won’t work with the latest version of MacOS. There may also be driver issues on the ClickShare unit that communicates with the projector. Interestingly, you can connect to a virtual machine (i.e. Windows on a Mac via Parallels or VMware) and get around the compatibility issues - just remember about item 1.
One last point - for those of us in Cary, T3086 has this system. You can go in and practice with setting it up in there. If you’re outside of Cary, make a point to come in during one of the annual meetings and give it a shot.
Best,
M
