I had a customer as a question about connecting to multiple data sources using query builder:
"[He wonders] if there’s a way in Query Builder to select from different data sources (i.e. a SQL database and a separate JMP table)? Right now, trying to modify a query of a database, I have to script in the table opening and joining post-query."
My thought was to use a post query script in the QB workflow to do the processing or even to trigger a Table QB workflow using the table from the QB and this other jmp table he mentions.
Any thoughts on a more elegant way to do this?
Best,
M
It sounds like the same kind of question asked here.
Is that the customer asking you?
Make sure the customer understands what's happening with Query Builder. All of the joining and filtering work is being done in the database, not in JMP.
If he wants to join JMP data and database data then those two datasets have to be in the same place at the same time, either in the database or in JMP.
So, that means either bringing all the data from the database into JMP and doing the join there or moving the JMP data table into the database and doing the join there and then bringing it back. Neither of those is terribly efficient.
So, what you've described, doing whatever work you can in the database to limit the amount of data brought into JMP and then doing the rest of the work in JMP, is the best option.
