There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platformThis is our customer's question, I checked his question but I could not find the reason why.
1. He splited his data [data.jmp]
-splited by : param
-split columns : value
-group : other 3 variables
2. After split, the result is data after split.jmp
Without any alerting message (i.e. some part of your data could be disappeard), one row of raw data was
disappeard. I think that raw data must not disappear without proper user alerting.
Is this bug, error of JMP ? or Is there any reason
Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platHi Brady, Thank you very much for your idea.
I understand
1. Every rows have to be unique.
2. need check for row uniqueness in tables/summary
3. Nonetheless. warning message could be big help to user
About the warning message, I will ask to Daniel.
Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platHello Ikju,
As Phil mentions, :param, :Lot#, :Dcc and :process code are not unique in the table. There are only 11 combinations of these, but there are 12 rows in the table, so a row must be omitted in the split table. It appears from my experimenting around a bit that the LAST row occurring in the original table, for each combination of :param, :Lot#, :Dcc and :process code (that is, the set of "Split By" and "Group" variables) will be kept.
I think a warning message that rows will be dropped is a good idea, and for fastest resolution of that, the customer should contact technical support.
In the meantime, the customer can perform a quick check to see whether data will be lost in the split: have him or her use the Summary platform on the original table, using the "Split By" variable and "Group" variables that he or she wants to use in the Split operation, as the "Group" variables in the Summary dialog. If the Summary table has fewer rows than the original table has, data will be lost in the split.
For example, in this case he or she would use Summary with :param, :lot#, :Dcc and :process code as the Group variables. When the summary table appears, it has 11 rows, but the original table had 12 rows, so 1 row of data will be lost if a split is performed using the same variables. Data will be lost for any combination of :param, :lot#, :Dcc and :process code where N Rows does NOT equal 1 in the Summary table.

Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platHi,
Yes, without a warning there is a risk of someone losing data without realising it.

Phil
Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platHi all
I got question about tables/split from our customer.
After checking his question with, I could understand his question but there is additional question.
His and my question is summarized and attached
Thanks in advance
Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platThanks Phil,
I also checked and think duplication problem. I have addtional question about that.
I will ask related members.
Thanks
1. In case of duplication, which row or rows of duplicated rows is eliminated ?
2. I think that raw data must not be eliminated[disappeared] in any case.
If there is raw data’s disappearance in some case, proper alerting message is needed certainly.
Re: There is no any alerting message even though original[raw] data disappear in 'tables/split' platHi,
I think the reason that one of the values has disappeared is because there are 2 rows with the same values of the grouping data:
param value lot# Dcc process code
p4 11 c 2 111
p4 87 c 2 111
Because the split is grouped by these variables it can only use one of the p4 values in the split table.
I would generally encourage customers to send these questions to technical support. If it turns out to be a bug, they will need to raise it with development.
I hope this helps.
Phil
