Graph Builder Labeling of Bar ChartsHi,
I need help with labeling bar charts for multiple responses when you have rounding effects:
When I use a bar chart element in Graph Builder on three numeric responses by an ordinal Variable on X, all beyond each other, I can set the label by value for each and this is ok - almost. If the values are with one decimal, and you might have a "4.0", then it will show up as "4".

OK, this can be done with labeling the column and set the label in Graph Builder as Label by row.

Cool, it works for one labeld column, but as I have three responses it gets difficult. The others do not act the same ...
And if I use multiple Columns as label I get it displayed for each bar multiple times (as often as Columns are labeled).

Is there a way to have the unrounded labels in that graph for all variables? In the script there is nothing I can modify for that. In the bar chart the values get displayed unrounded.

I assume there might be a defect in GB with that rounding effect. But I'm happy if you proof me wrong.
Thanks,
Martin
Re: Graph Builder Labeling of Bar ChartsHi Martin,
No, there is no defect that I can see for that specific desired behavior. However, the way to get around this restriction on row labeling in Graph Builder with multiple Y variables is to stack the data table first. Go to Tables > Stack, then select all the Y columns you want on the Y axis and place them in the stack columns box. Click OK. The new data has all the Y values in a column called Data with a Label column identifying which original column the values came from. Then, turn on label for the Data column for all rows, and in Graph Builder, put Data in Y, the desired column in X, and then the Label column in Overlay. You'll get the same graph you would by putting multiple Y variable in that role with no overlay, and the label for each individual point is the only one that appears.
Hope this helps,
Sarah
Re: Graph Builder Labeling of Bar ChartsHi Sarah,
by the way is in this defect also this option included?:
In case you have multiple column labels you want to select what label appears in what graph in Graph Builder. Currently you will see always all labels at the same time, even if there is just one line of one column in the lower field and a line for another column in the upper field (e.g. you have two y variables on top of each other.
Or is there another defect?
Thanks,
Martin
Re: Graph Builder Labeling of Bar ChartsHi Martin,
Defect S1143037 is related to this issue, and requests that users be able to customize the decimal places shown when using the "Label by Value" option in Graph Builder's bar chart. With only one Y variable, the workaround is to create a label column in the data and use the Label by Row option. With multiple Y variables, the only workaround is to try and use the Chart platform to achieve the desired results.
Hope this helps,
Sarah
