Desktop folders and large files (>15GB) in OneDrive

My understanding is that I can't sync what's on my (Mac) Desktop without putting it in the OneDrive folder (in which case it would stop showing up on the Desktop). How are you backing up large files?

I don’t worry about the VM’s. I keep mine as plain vanilla as possible so I don’t have to worry about if they get trashed. I’ll get them set up with JMP and SAS installed or whatever else I need installed and then make copies to external drives when they are clean (as a back-up). Then I share my One Drive directory (and a few others) to the VM. That way the important files (presentations, datasets, etc.) are backed up and I can keep the VM’s themselves in their own directory. Since I keep my VM’s as close to stock as possible, if something goes sideways I just have to bring them over from my external drive and run through whatever updates and patches are due – Or, worst case – I can plug one in from Cary without batting an eye.

I use aliases if it’s something big that I want backed up but want on my desktop. So the file exists in the OneDrive folder, but I’ve still got an icon on my desktop.

How do you the big files into OneDrive, since the size limit is 15 GB? This is a bigger concern since I'd like to back up the Windows image I use for Parallels.

So, you're saving the VM backup to an external drive? My set-up is not vanilla (JMPC and SAS Metadata Server) and I'd rather not have to download and reinstall.
