Team,
Notes from our 12/17/15 - J
MP Customer Call - DOE Workshop Planning – Chris Ying - AMAT APTD – Santa Clara, CA
1. Place, Date & Time
- Customer: AMAT
- Place: Santa Clara, CA
- Dates: 12/17/15
- Times: 11AM-12PM CST
- Meeting Type: JMP Customer Call
2. Background
- Call with Chris Ying, JMP Champion and Manager of the AMAT APTD Group, on requested DOE Workshop for his team.
3. Attendees:
- AMAT:
- Chris Ying – Manager, APTD Group
- JMP:
- Dan Durkin – JMP Global Account Manager
- Scott Wise – JMP Global Technical Team
4. Meeting Purpose
5. Customer Needs
6. What Discussed
- Chris’s APTD Group:
- Advanced research group
- Influence the entire company’s DOE and Statistics training
- Chartered to make things happen
- JMP Training Influence:
- On Steering Committee for JMP DOE Training:
- Driving it together with Ted Owens and Chris Olsen
- Chris established the first framework
- Get people up to speed on DOE is the first step
- More than 400 trained on basic JMP and DOE
- JMP Training Challenge:
- Many Engineers opted out of the JMP and DOE training claiming they already knew the material
- However their work shows they do not have the basics
- How do we teach Engineers to do DOE and analyze in most efficient way
- Needed Workshop Focus:
- Need better applied and case based approach to training DOE
- More heavier use at Applied for JMP is quality tools (SPC, etc.) in manufacturing related areas on things like Chamber Matching, etc.)
- But not driving this part and needs to speed up how to get data into info and learn faster in product development
- So more DOE than data anlaysis
- Commented that in Etch they don’t hardly do any DOE, but he is requiring hist team in APTD to use DOE
- So this is DOE and JMP follow-up targeting for Product and Device Engineers
- Main focus is "How to learn faster”
- Goal for upcoming year is to make DOE part of the culture
- Think DOE and statistics naturally
- Workshop Details:
- Wants this to go beyond common DOE training
- Disconnect in past trainings between what taught and reality
- Need to make it more relevant for product and test
- Target and overcome the “negative” camp
- Positive camp (1/3) gets it
- Negative camp (2/3) thinks it is too hard or not useful
- Workshop does not need any fancy statistics and design
- Take a copule of real cases…show hoe to do a solid DOE
- Adress real cases:
- R&D: Example of DOE on lot of 25 wafers with all kinds of splits (how to get the most information from the lot)
- Etch: Example of missing lots coming to Etch Step needing to be rerun
- Has participated in the past workshops were team presents their case examples first, but while good for awareness this didn’t get everyone to the next level
- Need pre-work and way to gauge post success
- Recommended Solution:
- Chris will go back to Module Head and come back with two to three real case problems to build the workshop around
- One or two devices and one process.
- Collaborative approach with JMP in January (meeting to be set-up)
- Target February Workshop
7. Customer Feedback
- Wants JMP DOE to be a part of changing the Engineering culture
8. JMP Opportunity
- Ability to further embed JMP use in daily experimentation
9. Next Steps
- Recommended Solution:
- Chris will go back to Module Head and come back with two to three real case problems to build the workshop around
- One or two devices and one process.
- Collaborative approach with JMP in January (meeting to be set-up)
- Target February Workshop
