We are reviewing our design for software deployment and would like to know more about how you and your company deploy JMP software. As we prepare for future releases, we would like to know what the major points of concern are for you. We understand that the deployment of 1,000 licenses can be very different than the deployment of 10 licenses. We also know that two companies with 1,000 licenses may deploy software differently.
To start the deployment of JMP software, our company, SAS, sends you an email with download instructions. The goal of this email is to provide the information on steps needed to obtain a copy of the software installer.
1) Does that individual that gets this email actually process the steps? Or do they forward mail to someone else?
2) Are the instructions in the email clear enough to follow?
After the installer (also known as the "Software Depot") is downloaded.
3) What happens next at your company to get the installer passed around?
- Is the Software Depot placed on a network share site for users to access?
- Do you use special software to manage the release and installation of JMP?
- Is there a software administrator that handles these steps?
- Are any edits made to the Software Depot before software is installed?
- Does each individual user install JMP themselves?
- Do you have different methods of deployment used by different groups? If so, can you share those methods and the estimate of how many users are deployed in each?
Licensing considerations
4) Is there any special handling of JMP licensing? The license file is part of the Software Depot and will be installed onto the user machine at installation time, unless other steps are taken to control this.
- Does your company take any steps to change the way JMP license are copied from the Software Depot to the machine during installation?
- What problems do you find, if any, with JMP software licensing?
